yeah but sonys gonna make more money AND save because in order to cut the price,they will take out the ps2 harddrive(29 bucks for this i think) and theyre gonna combine two parts(i forgot wut it wuz srry)maybe thisll stop those ps 3 flamers

I think one of the huge costs was the whole Blu-ray drive and the brand new Cell processor. I think now that the manufacturing is in full swing, the cost of manufacturing those 2 components has dropped a fair amount. Or so I've been told. Not that they are making money on things now, but I think they're not losing as much per console as when the PS3 launched. LBP

If you guys looked at the ps3's sales on amazon the day the price cut happened, You woudl have seen the sales increase rate go up to 2800%. Crazy. Also for some reason there was a special ps3 controller thing that went up by 32000% sales increase O_O

Anyway, they don't really profit on the hardware, but on the software, and the more ps3's sold will mean more games sold too.

thats where your wrong, a teacher doesn't take its job for the money, same goes for the video game industry. Sure some of them *cough* Moore *cough* might care about the money. But most of the video game industry create games so they can play it, have fun with others, and see their fans adore their work.

Yeah, but there is a difference. Teaching is different than running a business. I can agree that the companies can care about the general interest of their consumers, such as not using cheap parts that will break easily to save money *cough*. What you said is true about most developer's etc. But Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo's businesses revolve a lot more around money than making individual consumer's happy, except for the fact that the two are usually very connected.

totally speculation but maybe they'll make the 80gb go down $100 after the 60gb run out, that'd be the smartest thing to do for sony > > or less it'll just make people ****** again that its still as expensive as it was b4. Hopefully i'm right =)

Just think about the times you were having fun playng it while people were sitting on there bums goign soon the price will go down then i will have fun. If you wait like three years it will be way cheaper. But why woudl you wait that long when you can start having fun now.

Well, when they run out of the now out of production 60gb models, what will happen to the price of the the new 80gb? I think it will be a bad strategy to let the price rise again just in time for holidays.

I'm ****** off that they have already brought out a playstation with more memory than the 60Gig one i got in the beginning. It makes me want to buy and install a new HDD which as i have found out is really easy. Then i can have like 120Gig. I have already used up 20Gig on my 60Gig so after like a year its gonna be full. I am pretty annoyed at sony for that.

Well it probably costs them the same to buy 80gb than it did to buy 60gb hardrives, because most companies don't make as many smaller sized hard drives
