Need some logics help!

Archive: 7 posts

Hey,

I'm doing a top-down level where you control a character other than Sackbot, which means, Sackbot is somewhere outside the screen in a Controllinator and is controlling this other non-life character (basically just a ball). Then I'd like to do so that when this non-life character goes near a certain object, i.e. a vehicle, you would take the control of the vehicle (Sackboy changes Controllinator). I have made it this far.

Now the problem is you should be able to get out of the vehicle and take control of the non-life character again. But when I enter the vehicle, I've made that a Destroyer destroys the non-life character (making it look he enters the vehicle). But when I wanna get out of the vehicle and regain the control of the non-life character, I've made a Emitter in the vehicle that spawns a new non-life character next to the vehicle (making it look he gets out of the car). The problem here is that the non-life character has some logics in it and from where a wire goes to the Controllinator outside the screen where Sackboy is. So when you emit a new non-life character (sorry for using this term, but I don't want you to confuse this to Sackboy, lol), it can't spawn the wires and such connected to the Controllinator.

Yeah... So is there any other way to create this kind of a system? Any help would be appreciated. I'm going to try 'n fix it. I may be able to create the character without any wires but also the vehicle has its own wires and those certainly can't be made without wires. But I could live with that. That just would mean I can't spawn any new vehicles during the level.

I could maybe fix this by making it so that this non-life character would just actually go inside the car and move with it but that would make it kinda' hard.

You can have wireless communication between objects using tags and tag sensors.

Alternatively, if you were using a sackbot (not ideal for top-down levels), the controlled sackbot itself could mount another Controlinator over which you then take control. (That Controlinator can then remotely control another sackbot, etcetera. )

...

You mean I make the character so that it has a Tag in it and then the Sackboy with his Controllinator outside the screen has a Tag Sensor which when activated, does stuff? Hmm, gotta try that.

Yes. Tags can also be wired now, so you can activate them with a signal.

Try this:

Sackboy sits in a controllinator that has remote control: transmitter.
Non-life and the vehicle each have a controllinator that has remote control: receiver.

What happens with this setup is that the player will control both at the same time.

Now, you can use the 'eject player' input on the controllinators of Non-life and the vehicle to turn off their responsiveness. So, put a tag on your No-life object, and put a tag sensor in the vehicle with maximum range. Attach the tag sensor to the vehicle's controllinator input.

With this setup, the vehicle will be disabled whenever Non-life exists in the game (out of the vehicle) and it will be responsive when Non-life doesn't exist (i.e. In the vehicle).

Does that make sense? PM me if you want more detail or help with this explanation.

Thanks. I'll try it out and see how it goes.
