Stronghold of the Lost Empire

Hey. This is my first level. Its a platformer set in an old fortress. I have already fixed many issues mainly with multiplayer since i released it but im willing to improve it in any way based on any feedback.

Ok firstly I will set the positives.

Really good consistent and detailed design, loved it.
Music, great choice and really fits the level well.
Like the way that on the puzzles you move the camera angle around the puzzle section so we can get a good look at it.
Really good thought out puzzles and designed puzzles.

Next the negatives.
There is a jump after the first spike trap, you just jump up layer to layer to a checkpoint. I found the wall a little high and almost gave up.
Stairs inside the tower are a bit non functional due to sackboy auto layering. You keep running off them.
The grab at the top of the tower is also very awkward. I managed it but I can see some people having trouble.

Overall this was great and ive added it to my favourites. Look forward to seeing more. Don't take much notice of the negatives they are just minor issues. But the positives are all pretty rare with most levels. One of the best community levels I've played so far.

Thanks for the feedback timeH i was already unsure about some of the areas you mentioned and now i know they need to be improved.

Ok just played your level and here is my review that I left in LBP2

"Magnificent level! this level incredible. the cinematic work for this level was awesome along with the gameplay of the level. The visual of the level was stunning the use of matterial, stickers, and decoration gave the level an extra kick. Keep it up."

My suggestion is to use a little more decoration and sticker in the start of the level to give it that extra kick!

I hope my review was helpful, I hope you can do the same for me in my new level unless you already did lol

I thought it was an insanely good platformer. You've nailed the setting and scenery perfectly, the camera angles were amazing. power-ups were used creatively, the secret rooms were creatively placed and there was a fluid feeling to the "exploration" in the level. There were some hiccups though, but TimeH33 already hit upon most of the points that need improving. The stairs were especially glaring, and don't seem necessary if you have to grappling hook past the bugged layering part. With the gameplay a bit more polished, this would be an instant-classic platformer, and was still worth every second of it as-is.

I have made several improvements to the level based on feedback. The main change is i removed the stairs in the tower because they were not needed and were causing more problems than solving.
Any more feedback is greatly appreciated and i will return feedback as well obviously.

This level is great, i think visually it needs a few touch ups, the outside of the ruins is nice, but the few leaf decorations and rope don't do much, but platforming is well done and theme is also very well done. It would be nice to have a storyline but it's not necessary, it's still a very very nice level ^_^ and i heart it ^_^2011-02-26 20:06:00

Thanks for the swell comments on my level. I gave yours a try this morning and I have to say, very impressive. Its standard platforming but in an enjoyable no frustration way, you figure out how to continue, and its not a chore to try to get there, its a great level visually. The landscape changes constantly, uses all the layers, and is easy to see what you're doing. I like like the lack of pointless traps (like fire pits, with tiny ledges to jump on), they make getting through the level a pain and theres none of that here. This is a great level for platforming people (i am one of those people ) for how it involves the grappling hook and strategic usage to avoid dying, this is one of the rare community levels that actually seems aceable and that gives it a big boost in the "wanting to play" factor. I see alot of great levels with a small amount of plays and it just makes me hope that people are creating these excellent levels for mostly their own enjoyment, because it would be sad to see people stop making them completely in favor of another zombie hunter game. (not knocking zombie levels, i love a couple of them, but i love imaginative personal creations like this level so much more)

One of the best levels ive played very great job with layers, pure plataforming levels and nice use of Hook.. was a pleasure to play it.

Got a chance to play it. Liked it overall and some of the platforming elements had pleasant surprises, such as the drawer that slides out or the finish. One recommendation though. I loved the puzzle where I had to swing to a platform then jump off of it before it sunk too low, but the difficulty seemed out of place. If this level was dedicated to hard platforming, which I don't recommend, then the puzzle would be fine. As it stands, I'd make the rock platform you have to jump onto just a little bit lower.

To F4F, check this thread. I noticed some similarities in our designs because of the castle theme, and that made playing this all the more enjoyable.

Just played your level, and as I wrote in-game I though it was excellent! I shows that you spend a lot of time playtesting iot fool proof parts of the more advanced gameplay mechanics. I know how long that takes, but the result for the player is oh so rewarding!

Really really nice, this level have at the same time an apparently simple look but it give a powerfull atmosphere feeling!
The visual is really good,i love how you cut the stone blocks material and overall i approve the entire material selection
I like the lights and the camera choice,it give strong impact even in place where there is not much many things,the essential look work really well
PERFECT music choice,you can't chose better!
Nice and orignal platforming,great experience
The logic/level design is so much precise and clean... is all so clear that it impress me (is the oppsite of my chaotic style,i like this contrast)
If i must choose a particular area the "tower" part is probably my favourite

Hi, Just gave this one a try. Very good! I liked the design choice very good camera work throughout the level.
I felt compelled to try and get as many score bubbles as possible, even after finding a secret area i thought i would be higher on the scoreboard than i was! 33 hah.
Fitting music and a brilliant overall experience.

hey played your level a few minutes ago, have to say its amazing

the obstacles are challenging and they work really well. You even thought of some secret areas, thats great
i also like the design and details in your level.

In my opinion the best thing about your level is the atmo!
the music is stunning and totally fits the whole theme. Oh yeah, i like old castles ;D

a little thing you could change: You forgot the "a" in the word "beauty" in your description

Hey there hitman, I just played this level, and wow I enjoyed myself! The platforming is fun, the whole scenery was well crafted, and there are little to no bugs at all! Very polished I must admit that this level is a little difficult at certain points (that have been mentioned by others) but that isn't always a bad thing, especially for players for myself. Still, I can see how some parts may be frustrating for others. Overall I found this level to be a blast and can't wait to see what else you put out! 2011-03-15 23:15:00
