How do I create team scoring please?

Archive: 10 posts

Hi

I have a versus football game where player 1 scores 10points for scoring in one goal, player 2 scores 10 points for scoring in a different goal, my question is....

How can I make player 3 ALSO get the points when player 1 scores and vice versa

How can I make player 4 ALSO get the points that player 2 scores and vice versa

So essential, a solution to having scores occur for a team of two

I tried AND gates but the score giver may be the problem as it only scores points for "you only" or " you and your friends"

Appreciate your help

Thanks

Your going to need to create an alternate Scoring method.

Points aren't really the way to go for Team games - your going to need something like teh SackBot counters in Factory Of Better Tomorrow.

I've not played much with score givers and versus level logic or design, so if someone who has can say that this won't work then you should believe them. That said...

Don't give the points directly to the player/sackbot in control. Give each team its own colored tag sensor connected to separate score givers for each player/sackbot. When a goal is made, rather than directly triggering the score giver, set on (or emit) the properly colored tag for a very brief period. Make sure the tag sensors on the sackbots have a big enough range to detect the score giving tag.

The simple answer is that there is no simple answer. In my Blackjack level the versus mode has been limited to one turn per play, because once the first turn is over the score sensor keeps giving points to Player 2 instead of going back to Player 1. I've messed about with controlinators, microchips, but it simply isn't possible.

The bottom line is that MM massively screwed up by not giving enough options for score sensors. There's "Just you" or "All your friends" - why the *bleep* didn't they think to have an option for P1, P2 etc.?

I suspect they will add this in a future update as you're not the only one to have problems with score sensors. I know several creators who have had to abandon entire concepts because they don't work properly. I'm very lucky that I got them to work at least once for Blackjack.

I'm not sure how your level works, but one way to do it would be to force players through individual paths that force them to collect the points that they earned for their goals. You could set up the environment so that regardless of the number of players, all players must be physically separated. The goals themselves would not earn immediate points. Instead they would spawn point bubbles (or some score-giver-based device if you want to avoid score multipliers) in the separated pathways that the players would pass through after the game. If player 4 scores a goal, then points could spawn in the pathways for both players 2 and 4 to collect after the game ends.2011-02-24 21:00:00

Thanks for the reins everyone. It's a football game and i think the Sensor method is my only option.

Please feel free to check the level out as it is currently published.
Look for me - fatboyslick - or the game called Sackboy Soccer / Football

I was actually tinkering with something very similar haven't really gotten to the point system yet but if I figure anything out I'll let you know. I assume since you're from Manchester Football doesn't mean American football, because that would be even more difficult to score I believe. why don't you just keep score with counters and give like 5000 points to the winners?2011-02-25 05:05:00

Yeah...I mean the proper football played with the feet

Never tinkered with the Counter...will look into it and hope it's not too much logic

Here is a little schematic I just drew:

http://i.imgur.com/mbqs6.gif

Have this logic on every player's sackbot. Set the selector at the start of the match to the team a player is in. You see two microchips central here; they contain the same content, except that the tag names and tag sensors are named "goaltoteam2" instead of "goaltoteam1", obviously. With this, your own scoring action will give you points and activate the relevant tag that signals all other people on your team to get points as well (through the tag sensor). A player will not pick up points from signals from the other team, because the tag sensor for the other team is on an inactive chip.

A nice side effect of this is that you can now also set up external signals to award people in a certain team; i.e., ball in team 1's goal activates tag "goaltoteam2" on the chip that is connected to team 1's goal. If you want to award or subtract points for other events as well, duplicate these microchips, hook them up to the same selector, rename the tags and tag sensors and wire up the corresponding action that gives these scores.

With a selector of 3 channels, this schematic will also work for a 3-team setup (2 football teams + hooligans ).

Good luck and ask away if any of this is unclear.

Edit: as a side not, you may be wondering whether activation of a tag on a player will trigger the player's own corresponding tag sensor. I only recently learned from these forums that tag sensors will never pick up tag that are on the same circuit board.
