Touch sensitive levers

Archive: 10 posts

If Im not mistaken the r1, r2, l1 and l2 keys are either pressure sensitive or multilevel. You can see this by light pressing them when animating your characters hands. Press lightly and just the hands go up. Press harder and they give the piece sign or whatever sign is appropriate for what mood you have chosen.

The grab levels are a pain in vehicles because they have no tension. They flop around with the motion of the vehicle. Seems to me that you could lightly press GRAB and have it so that would actually grab the lever and let you move it. Then once you have your speed or direction set you press more to lock in that position. So now the lever is set and you are hanging on. Letting off slightly on the button lets the lever move free but you are still grabbing.

Seems that could be done.

Back in the beta, I made a way to somewhat counteract that. Instead of using levers, I had two pieces of grab-able material that signified going forwards and backwards. Both of those switches were connected to different pistons that pushed a 3 way-switch that controlled the actual movement. No longer was the player in the hands of gravity as you can continue to move forward or backward without having to worry about flopping around and messing with the direction of your vehicle.2008-11-22 06:06:00

Thats an awesome idea. Unfortunately I dont think there is room on my tank to do this. Good to know for the future though.

Only the triggers are pressure sensitive, and R1 is not a trigger.2008-11-22 14:59:00

well the handle is made of sponge, so you can definitly connect it. Try elastic? On both ends.2008-11-22 15:16:00

Your voice is insanely amazing! Love it! Where are you from?!
Awsome hovercraft and tank by the way. How did you manage to perfect the hovercraft's shape, mass, etc?..
Oh, and no ideas to help you. Sorry..

I live in CA now but originally from MS.

Glad you like the vehicles. I just made a new tread for the tank. The one on there now is prone to some material bug. It will stick to soft and hard flat surfaces and break. The new tread does not look nearly as good but works and has yet to break.

The hovercraft is the final version of about 10 different versions. I weighted the bottom and added more floating material at top center. So one wants to weight down and to center and the other wants to go up and to center. I think that stabalized the whole deal.

Oh that sucks. They should swap functions then. I would much rather be able to control grab than change what pose my hand is making

That may be true for LBP, but previous versions of the Dualshock controller (PS2) had pressure sensitive R1, R2, L1, L2, Circle, Square, X, and Triangle buttons. They never felt pressure sensitive since there wasn't much room for them to move. Most games didn't utilize them, but a few did, like some racing games and the Metal Gear games. I'm not sure if they made the Dualshock 3 without pressure sensitive face buttons, but I would assume they kept it there.
