Sackbot not talking with Magic Mouth

Archive: 13 posts

Hey guys,

Hate to make a thread about this - but none of the search options answered, what I presume is a very simple answer (probably why no one asked the question )

I have a magic mouth - named the Tag "SAD" (cause the sackbot is sad).

Named the Sackbot "SAD".

No matter what I do - when I trigger the magic mouth - the sackbot doesn't talk. The speech bubble goes off and the sackbot sits there moping. But no mouth movement.

I've tried hooking up the mouth to the behaviour chip - I've put the mouth on the sackbot chip.

What am I missing here? Should I have it on a sequencer for some reason?

I'm sure it's a simple fix - so I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks guys.

Don't you have to record to get sackboy to move his mouth?
Try changing the names btw. (sad1, sad2)

The magic mouth has to be on the sackbot's circuit board. As far as I know, that's it. Try clearing tag and actor names and try it again.2011-02-24 04:47:00

I noticed in one of my locked levels, the mouth only moves if it's on the sackbot. As far as I know.

I'm not 100% sure the actor thing will work. But keep on trying.

Hmmmm, so - only recording gets a moving mouth? Can anyone confirm that?

As for putting it "on" the sackbot - I did that - and the magic mouth activated like normal when I got in range - but he didn't move his mouth. I even tried hooking it up to his behaviour chip - nothing.

From what I could tell the sackbots mouths only move if there is a voice recording. Their mouths actually move in sync with the dialogue unlike magic mouths which just kind of flap around randomly.

In my new level I am using magic mouths on a sequencer with voice recordings , and sackbots with actor names that match up and the sackbots mouths move without any issues.

You need to set up the Actor name, not a Tag2011-02-24 18:38:00

Also, haven't checked this, but I think you need to give it a voice from the speech bubble, I usually put that and have no problems.2011-02-24 19:26:00

This tag business is nonsense. All you need to do is specify a gibberish voice. I believe there are three voice options on a magic mouth: no voice, gibberish voice, or recorded voice. You can record something or go gibberish, just change it from no voice. Of course, the mouth must be on the circuit board somewhere. Most of my magic mouths are on sequencers that are on sackbot circuit boards. Subtitles don't matter, actor names don't matter, tags don't matter. I have several actors in my level and I only named one of them, yet all characters move their lips because I've specified gibberish voices on the magic mouths themselves.2011-02-24 19:30:00

Thanks everyone - I'll give it a shot. I don't really want gibberish though - wanted subtitles, with no sound, and moving mouth - I know, maybe it's a bit strange. But that was what I was going for.

Alright - the new level is almost done! So excited to release it in a few days.

Yeah, just tested it.
Sackboy now moves his mouth if you add a voice, doesn't need to be recorded at all.
That's cool.

Could you activate a global audio tweaker (with "dialogue volume" turned down) at the same?

Yeah, what you said, confirmed, in detail and with confidence.

Probably, I haven't played with this stuff, but otherwise you might be able to just set individual magic mouths to gibberish voice with 0% volume.
