LBP1 lvls, leave them in LBP2, or make LBP1 Only?

Archive: 13 posts

I'm considering whether or not to simply make all 14 of my LBP1 levels "LBP1 Only".

Obviously, the selling point of "Those 2 million levels - still there and looking better than ever" - Didn't quite turn out to be true.

Several of my levels were so bad, they were practically non-playable, or, all the lighting effects (shadows) were gone, with no way to reproduce it. And when you have a level called "Shadow Realm" - well, it's kind of important.

I hate to remove my levels (especially a series that I was hoping to make a 3rd story to), but I just don't feel they represent my intent for the visual style I worked so hard to achieve. Wish they had an option to play "as author intended" (yeah, I know that can't happen).

What are you guys doing? Leaving them? Or just letting them go?

I think I'll just leave em up.
Pretty sure people are downrating my costume levels because there are no sackbots in there, but I don't mind.
On second thought, maybe I will upgrade them.. I doubt i'll use 20 LBP2 slots anytime soon..
Plus who still plays LBP1 anyway?

Definitely a bad situation for the LBP1 levels that rely on lighting.. :/

EDIT: That's a good idea blastroid.
Looking at my activity for my levels, it seems quite a few are rating with stars (LBP1).
I've decided to leave them as they are.

I decorated my earth with all the LBP1 levels in a spot with some stickers indicating my LBP1 lemons and the levels I liked.2011-02-24 03:43:00

I removed the LBP1 levels that either didn't apply to LBP2 or didn't work. Of course I only had three levels. If the experience is ruined in LBP2 then designate it as LBP1 only. If it is part of a series, let people know there are some that are only playable in LBP1. If I liked a level and I saw that I, personally, would load up LBP1 to play it.2011-02-24 04:23:00

Yeah, I'll probably just move them to LBP1. My levels are really long, so updating them would take forever.

I wonder if MM has any plans to fix this issue. There is no way they can stand by their tag line "Those 2 million levels, still there and looking better than ever". I don't know many people that found their levels were instantly improved without either some reworking, major reworking, or simply found them ruined.

I guess until MM fixes this, I'll make them all LBP1. I just don't feel they are represented properly.

I don't know about anybody else, but i hope they work on other important things then making sure LBP1 levels work. I brought LBP2 to play LBP2 levels not LBP1 levels.

IT depends on you, but if level is really broken in LBP2 then "Only LBP1"2011-02-25 14:06:00

I've changed all mine to "LBP1 Only" and wish everyone else would do the same or even better, Mm would implement a preference such that I would never ever have to see an LBP1 creation again. Of my levels:

1 is completely unplayable.
2 have wobble bolts that have gone berzerk so sections are broken but you can get past them.
7 Are functional but super hideous because of the lighting and hazard changes.
3 Are totally fine and actually look better in LBP2.

Even for the 3 levels that were ok, I still wanted to lock them. It's old stuff and with all the new tools I can do better...I don't see any reason to inflict them on the LBP2 community. I'm not interested in other people's old stuff...why would I think they'd be interested in mine?

Besides, the only plays old levels would get now are from people that wanted to see what else I had after playing my LBP2 level(s) and that comparison wouldn't be favorable. Would you be happy having people judge your create skills in the context of LBP2 by your LBP1 levels?

I dunno, assuming they make the transition without any problems, a fun level is still a fun level. I'd still play the Oh No! series and their ilk in LBP2 because the gameplay holds up.2011-02-25 16:22:00

I've left my LBP1 levels up besides one that I had on a secondary account, i noticed it was quite liked in LBP1 but after 2 people played it and booed it I thought I'd better just check the level out to make sure it works though it probably does it's probably people just booing for the sake of it as usual. So I went in to play and ended up having to return to the pod quite quickly. I think you can guess why, so I set that to LBP1 only. I'm annoyed though, people played it in LBP2 and clearly booed the level because it didn't work and none of them was kind enough to leave me a message that the level was broke and didn't work in LBP2 . Most of my other levels are fine so I'd just about assumed they were all fine.
There are a couple of LBP1 levels I wish I didn't have up there because I made them in my early days and they're really terrible but I can't bring myself to delete them

i only had one unlocked level, i set it to LBP1 only.
i don't want people playing my old levels and think that's where my skill level is.
but soon people will see i'm a far better level maker then i used to be...
after i start making levels again that is~ *mew

Would you be happy having people judge your create skills in the context of LBP2 by your LBP1 levels?

If they were respresented properly (i.e. lighing, special effects) - then sure. I'm still proud of most of my LBP1 creations - and the last 2 from my Dream Catcher series, feature effects that people would have a hard time replicating in LBP2 (until they figured out how I did it).

I still get plays on Dream Catcher and have gotten all yays and no boos - which surprises me cause I think the level looks terrible - with a lot of effects not even showing up now.

If people could see my old levels with the original lighting and effects - then I'd have no problem leaving them up. Actually, I've had people leave comments on my profile asking where certain levels are that I removed already. And, people PMing me on PSN asking when the next level in the series is. So, obviously, to some people - the LBP1 levels still matter.

But since they look like trash, or simply don't work - it saddens me to have to take them down since they don't represent the hard work I put into them.

I think it's tragic that the "still there and looking better than ever" tagline for old LBP levels just isn't true.

Could they be made better with LBP2 tools - sure. But there were still some great LBP1 levels out there that were still fun.

Oh well. Maybe one day they'll do an update to live up to that tag line - until then, guess I'll just make them all LBP1.

I'm seriously thinking of changing them to "only LBP1".
Some parts are very laggy, when in LBP1 were not. Maybe it's because of the new lighting... but that's not all.
The look of some materials have changed. Some woods are shiny, when they shouldn't. In another level, I use a lot of the POTC sand material... and it shines too!
The Miracle of life is nearly unplayable due to LAG...

I'm not updating all my stuff cause it could take me aaages. It's a shame because I can loose many plays if I do it, but... it could be worthy
