Forum games in the open

Archive: 10 posts

I don't know if this has been suggested before or not, but I think that the forum games section (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?39-Forum-Games)being hidden behind the general gaming section is giving it less traffic than most other sections on the site.

Even though it is still easily accessible, I have noticed decreasing amount of posts lately, and hardly any new members posting there. I understand that the site is LBP based and many people only come here for the level showcase, help and LBP news, and this is fine, but I also believe that many members also want to have a good time, and changing the section to be stand-alone from the general gaming section will raise awareness, and therefore keep more members staying at the site.

Alright, I think i've said enough, your thoughts?

Unless you view an actual forum area, it's hard to know a sub-forum even exists in it. If the suggestion of giving Forum Games its own area doesn't happen, couldn't there be some way of showing what sub-forums are in what areas on the index? Could be a lot easier finding things then, or at least let people know those areas even exist.2011-02-24 14:20:00

I'm a big fan of forum games, and don't see why not. You have my support.2011-02-24 14:24:00

Actually looking for Forum Games section gives people a chance to explore the forums though. I just think people need to look/try harder.2011-02-24 17:10:00

The problem isn't trying harder, rather than what would happen before.

I think it was a standalone forum in the past, and IIRC this created some problems, because people were just hanging around there (Anyone remember the Spam-Can? No? I'm getting old...).

But as I said, that was some time ago. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to put it out in the open.

Comparing the Spam Can with the Forum Games section is an unfair comparison.

The forum games produced in there have a purpose, and they all tend to be fun. Problem is new users don't see the sub-forum. I didn't see it until a month or so after I joined.

The Spam Can was an entirely different matter. People went there just to post whatever they wanted, which is why it had so much activity at one point. But with the Spam Can gone, people who will post in the Forum Games will have an actual reason to post. Not only that, but any Spam Can thread produced in there will only be locked in a matter of minutes (well hours if the mods are slow).

Point is, the community has change along with the site. So maybe now is the time to get one of the most active sub-forums here and make it a stand-alone section instead.

Don't get me wrong, I agree completely with your proposition. The Forum games section is a section for fun things that lately has been honestly a bit obscured.

But surely laying everything out clearly is better for exploration? I'd rather be able to see everything the forum has to offer from the start than having to look for it. I mean, the more variety we (for lack of better word) make new people see the better, and so I see your argument. However, Forum Games is kind of hard to find. I love me some Forum Games, and was a little distraught to see this place was (I had thought) lacking in them, and putting them in General Gaming doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It puts me in mind of console gaming, which forum games as a whole don't have much connection with.
