Wobble/Motor Bolt Compatibility issue in LBP2
Archive: 10 posts
I submitted a bug report for this issue at Get Satisfaction (http://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet/topics/wobble_motor_bolts_moving_off_center_and_breaking_ in_lbp2). If anyone else would like to chime in or further test other related issue please do. In summary, I've noticed that Wobble and Motor bolts move off their axis when under the strain of an unbalance complex object (2 or more pieces of material glued together and bolted to another object). If it comes too far off axis the bolt will break. This only happens in LBP2, LBP1 works fine, so is a compatibility issue that could cause LBP1 levels to break in LBP2 (it broke one of mine). I've demonstrated this issue in a level here: http://lbp.me/v/x5sk6s I suspect that other bolts and possibly pistons might have similar issues but haven't had a chance to test them yet. To help Mm notice this issue and if you have any further information please add it to the bug report above. | 2011-02-23 20:28:00 Author: Osprey71 Posts: 93 |
Yeah, I've noticed that those pesky wobble bolts have become even more unstable than before. I avoid using them, since they break or lose alignment too easy. | 2011-02-23 21:55:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
If this is true, then many of the plans I have for my level are destroyed until this is fixed... I hope it gets resolved soon. | 2011-02-23 22:37:00 Author: ATMLVE Posts: 1177 |

This actually has been an issue since the beta and I've sent vids to the QA guys already. Sprung bolts and normal bolts hold up perfectly fine from what I've tested. | 2011-02-23 23:17:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

Thanks. I did some searching and I couldn't find mention of this. I have a few ideas on how to test some of the other bolts so will still give it a go, but hopefully they are fine, the issue is getting enough stress on them. Also, I had an issue with a piston when trying to fix the wobble bolt on my LBP1 level, but it was in combination with a standard bolt so It'll take further testing to see where the problem lies. Do you know if it is something they are working on resolving? | 2011-02-23 23:31:00 Author: Osprey71 Posts: 93 |

I've done some pretty extensive testing with sprungs and normal bolts as you can see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoNuxKoHBlM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoNuxKoHBlM A wobble/motor wouldn't be able to stand up to that stress. I've also dropped huge objects on it at 400% gravity to ensure its strength using the bolts/sprungs. It's good to go. | 2011-02-23 23:41:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

Actually, I went ahead with testing them out and they have the same exact issues as Wobble and Motor bolts. I added them to my example level. It makes a lot of sense really, it would seem odd if they behaved differently. But it probably would have been easier to fix. On a plus side though, everything else (pistons, winches, etc.), seem to be fine. Its just isolated to all types of bolts. | 2011-02-26 02:21:00 Author: Osprey71 Posts: 93 |
I haven't experimented with the bolts yet, but there is an incredibly annoying bug involving pretty much anything. If you put on Front View, it seems that things.. Slightly move on their own. This can be very difficult to cope with when doing precise measurements, etc. | 2011-02-26 23:52:00 Author: PurpleChaos Posts: 155 |

I had similar problems in LBP1, but it's possible that the problem is worse in LBP2 - haven't really experimented that much with 'em. | 2011-02-28 01:41:00 Author: Aya042 Posts: 2870 |

Yes, even when testing this issue for LBP2 I saw a few minor issues in LBP1. In LBP1 I only saw major issues when using several bolts interconnected (When trying to build a Theo Jansen like walking machine). In LBP2 relatively simple objects using bolts fail miserably. On a plus side, Mm has acknowledged (in the Get Satisfaction link above) that this is indeed a bug and that they have reproduced it. Hopefully this means a fix is being worked on and bolts will continue to be useful in LBP2. | 2011-02-28 20:15:00 Author: Osprey71 Posts: 93 |
