Alright, I've created a re-imagining of the Mega Man games. Full with custom music (made by aer0blue), a Mega Man style health and weapon system, custom enemies, boss fights, achievements, custom scoring and multiple game modes available.

I would really appreciate if you would check it out and give me a comment on what to improve. More content is under works!

New Video!

One review I really liked:

"This is utterly brilliant work. You've truly taken LBP into another genre with the look and feel of this. The music, menus, screen transitions, controls, weapons, and enemies...EVERYTHING here takes you into another game. That game is obviously Mega Man X and this is a great clone. A bit too tough for me, but I'll come back for another try! A must play for Mega Man fans or anyone wanting a good action game."

Initial thoughts: the help menu is a nice touch and great first impression, i like the responsiveness of the sackbot, I like controllable sackbot levels to begin with and I hate the one where someone justs not gates an anti-gravity chip, you obviously didn't do that and I respect that. I did that with my sackbot levels and I just hated playing them, so I fixed it up and it actually makes it fun to play..

Why is the level so short? I wanted to keep playing, i was just figuring out how to zero in with those weapons, i think the learning curve on the weps is perfect, just wish i could play more now. I love the variety and the amount of puzzles that could be made from these different weapons could be reaally good, you could make alot of levels with that.

I like what you've got started here, my f4f threads in my sig

I don't have sigs visible so if you wouldn't mind posting a link.

The level is short because I haven't completed the level yet. It's just a small taste of the bigger project. Thanks for the feedback.

I just gave this a go. Gotta say - I really enjoyed it. The flattened camera and your custom mechanics really make this stand out - it FEELS totally different than LBP.... it has a true 8 bit platforming feel to it. I think sometimes people forget how primitive the physics used to be in the retro games, but you nailed it.

One thing I found a bit frustrating was that I couldn't shoot when jumping at first, so that there were targets I was trying to hit that I felt like I should have been able to hit. Is the design to purposely not be able to jump and shoot at the same time? I had situations where I had run out of my other ammo and the gun was the only thing that was left.

But, at the same time I understand if these limitations are in place on purpose - I got the same kind of feeling with some ACTUAL retro games, so I won't hold it against levels.

Nice job - I will be back to play this some more. Gave it a happy face and a heart.

(no F4F necessary... just wanted to comment )

Thanks for the feedback! I just finished polishing quite a few parts of the level. Before today the fire weapon didn't deal any damage to enemies, among other bugs. I feel that the Flame Wolf stage is 100% complete except for the final boss. I still need to make the AI for the boss. Once that's done I'll hook in the scoring system.

Then onto the most important stuff - the bug you mentioned. You should absolutely be able to jump and shoot at the same time! I have never encountered this kind of a bug when testing the level. Do others have the same issue? Pressing X to jump and then pressing square mid air should fire the weapons normally. If you can somehow recreate the bug I would love to hear more.

I'll try it out again tonight and see what I was thinking. I was able to jump, and at the top of the jump shoot - but I thought if I tried to jump and IMMEDIATELY shoot I couldn't shoot in between. I'll try it out again and see if that's true. I was having a bit of a problem with the button you chose for shoot - since I couldn't fire with my index finger while jumping. But I'm sure I could get used to it.2011-03-17 23:46:00

Hm, good point. Maybe I should have R2 as an alternate shooting button. Didn't even cross my mind.2011-03-17 23:49:00

I finally made the final tweaks to the level! Now it has a boss fight at the end and a scoring system. Keep note that the scoring system only exists in the Single Stage mode!! This is because the normal mode goes into a sub-level that would mess up the scoring of the main menu, which is meant for the story mode scoring once I've finished other stages.

If you are able to finish the level in Single Stage mode, you will be ranked in the end based on your performance. Ranks start from D, there are six different ranks you can achieve.
