Sequencer Limits?
Archive: 7 posts
Hello, Is there a limit to how big a sequencer get?(ie the width and hight of the sequencers board) And is there a limit to how much thing you can place in a sequencer? I planning on making something that needs to activate at maximum 100-120 tags at once. | 2011-02-23 17:32:00 Author: Dexist Posts: 570 |
Well, the sequencer does only get so big. I have a pretty complicated one, but even though the actual size limit was reached, it never said it wasn't working or I couldn't place more things and everything on my sequencer works fine. it's just that at the board edge I can't tell what is what any more. Maybe someone else has put a ton of stuff and has seen something, but I have not and I have a few very full sequencers. | 2011-02-23 17:49:00 Author: RSQViper Posts: 302 |
Hello, Is there a limit to how big a sequencer get?(ie the width and hight of the sequencers board) Yes. I actually hit this limit recently, as I was trying to implement a full 8-bit analog->digital converter as a sequencer. The limit was, as I recall, a width of 125 stripes or so (I remember 'cause I needed 128 stripes to implement that A-D converter with just batteries and OR gates) - and there was a height limit as well, but I didn't count it. (Ultimately I dropped it down to 64 stripes wide, and got the lowest-order bit by using an AND gate between two overlapping rows of batteries to get quarter-stripe intervals...) Of course, before you hit the maximum size of a sequencer, you hit the limit for how big it can get before you can't see the right edge of if while resizing... As for how much stuff you can put in a sequencer - Add enough stuff and the wiring layout engine will slow create mode to a crawl, or you'll blow the thermometer... Otherwise, as far as I know, there's no specific limit. In another sequencer-based project I did, I initially put a bunch of microchips on the sequencer itself along with batteries to activate the chips and logic gates to combine the outputs - wiring that became really difficult with the slow-down from the wiring engine, so I moved the microchips and logic gates off the sequencer, left just the batteries there - that seemed to make things a lot easier to deal with. Part of it may be due to the inability to rotate items on the sequencer board. That limits your layout options. | 2011-02-23 18:49:00 Author: tetsujin Posts: 187 |
You can trick it into getting taller than its limit by making something hang off the top or bottom of it, then trying increase the size of the sequencer. It'll automatically snap to a size that makes the thing not overhang anymore. I haven't tried it, but presumably that would work horizontally as well. | 2011-02-23 18:55:00 Author: Speed Racer Posts: 156 |
yeah, this worked from the early days of the beta and I've just checked now and can get it up to 393.25 sripes. That's not actually the limit though, but if you force it wider than the level then you get ti spazzing right out. Also, you need to keep something at the maximum limit else it snaps back to the editor-defined limit (or the last object beyond that) when you resize the sequencer at all. Of course, I'm gonna try to make a longer one by twisting it diagonally. Isn't Pythagoras great? OK, diagonally I managed to get 430 stripes in. There is still a bit of extra room if you drop to one track and you have the patience to push it but meh, I've wasted enough time on this so far I'll publish them both if anyone is bothered about having them and wants to save a bit of time setting them up. | 2011-02-23 19:30:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
