Simon's Cat

Archive: 19 posts

http://lbp.me/v/x4zh8y

Republished March 28 2011. New version includes:
- Point givers rather than emitters
- An extra paths are blocked off to ensure people don't get stuck, etc
- The intro is skippable (I can't figure out how to make it non-repeatable!)
- Instructions on the flies
- Carpet in the In The Box room is no longer grabbable
- Some extra decorations, etc

Thanks for the feedback - I'm hoping to extend the fly bit/do a level link when I have some free time in a couple of weeks!

i see,
cute idea to feature simon's cat in a level

first let me say some things to help you doing stuff better:
1. don't build your level on the ground of the level. in my eyes it destroyes the illussion of a other place.
2. i wonder why is ther gas under the table? just random? maybe think a little bit about the topic your level is and try to build dangeours ontopic.
3. the block you can grab on the sleeping man can get stuck on his head and you can not use it again
4. the emitter is njaaaa... why don't you give points with a point giver tool?
5. why not making a game out of the fly guy stuff like the cat is jumping at you or something - i know its difficult to do but at least you can try but nice idea with the fly!
6. i forgot that i had the grappling hook and was lost, till i accidentally had it used.
7. the end was funny liked it! more like this!
8. why don't you try to build a sackbot cat and let him/her doing the same stuff like in the simon's cat videos? it's worth a try i guess.

i hope i was able to help you a little bit
cute level

I love the idea and the detail put in to it.
First of all I did not know there was gas and fell into it, therefore I died. A sign or some sort of indication would be good.
Secondly, when the bat drops onto the guys head I fell down, back down to the beginning. You could block it up with something so people can't fall down there.

Like the idea and the props were well made.

Other than FW's advice I have not much to say.

One thing though, the part at the very beginning when you give the credits keeps repeating every time you go over the spot. Was a little annoying to see it 3 times.

I think you could put it to only show once.

Love the little fly thing. room looks great.just an idea i thought adding a light to the lamp on the little table, with a sensor switch wouldve been neat. Rain was cool. Overall neat level, id say add more detail but i get the overall feel that the level is meant to be more simpler, and that works for it too.2011-02-23 03:17:00

Tried your level today and it was interesting but there is some stuff i'd change:

- First off you seem to use too many different type of materials which kinda ruins the immersion in the level, i think you should choose a theme with 3-4 main materials and stick with those.
- The elevator halfway through the level has a small gap on the left, i fell and had to restart the level.
- Some of the gameplay features were underused: the fly was nice but you just use it for a very short frame without much gameplay. Using that for a longer sequence would improve the level.
- Some of the logic in the level feels 'ancient': try to use every features of LBP 2, like the score switch or the movers and so on.

So nice level but could be improved a lot with some work.

Please return the feedback in my http://lbp.me/v/xq--dx level in the related F4F thread

Hi Vergil

Thanks for the advice. I have fixed the lift, everything else will take a little longer, but thanks for helping! In response to your "ancient" comment, it probably feels ancient because it is!! I haven't really got my head around all the logic options of LBP2 so that's something I'll need to work on.

Have queued your level and will play today.

Very cute level! I was definitely not expecting to be eaten by the cat. Made my day.

Two recommendations for you:
1) I liked the fly. I agree with others that you should extend this part of the level and get a bit more use out of it. It's a nice change of pace. (Unfortunately, the decision to make big rooms means LONG stretches of floor you have to run across without much happening).

2) I like your character designs. Perhaps try to add a little animation to them. Nothing too complicated. Just a waggle bolt on their wings or paws would be a good improvement.

Much appreciated

Hey, sorry for the delay. I do try to play everyone's levels that post in my thread, but I missed a few.

Cute level, I like the idea. The cats were good and representative of the cartoon. Maybe add something in the description telling people what it's based off though, because not everyone will know. I didn't realize until I saw the guy in the bed and remembered seeing the video online.

Some minor corrections you could make:

-- "Simon's Cat" stickers at the beginning needs an apostrophe.

-- Stuff that you don't want to be grabbed shouldn't be grabbable. Particularly the floor in sections where you use the grabinator to pick up other things resting on the floor.

-- Add descriptions to the buttons on the fly controlinator so the controls appear on the bottom of the screen automatically (i.e. left stick = move; right stick = rotate; R1 = shoot water).

-- Give your prizes a name so they don't just say "some kind of object"!

Oh and add this F4F link to your signature so people don't have to search for it. Thanks.

Hey Spitfire!

Reporting in after a test run, and I'm glad to see you've implemented some of the suggestions above. I think the character designs were quite attractive and the cat itself was all kinds of cute; thus, I think they deserve a more attractive environment to run around in. Perhaps this is something you should address once you've got the gameplay and logic kinks worked out, but even drawing inspiration from the fly room should get you started. That room was well-populated with decorative objects and doodads, while much of the rest of the level wasn't.

I enjoyed the gameplay and could not find any level-breaking bugs. Echoing the above comments, I wouldn't mind extending most of the puzzles. Even more toys to be put away would be fun, especially for more players.

Well done!

Lol XD i love Simon's cat. I agree with ForcesWerwolf about making a game for Fly Guy, you could make a game where you try to fly around and avoid Simon's cat for as long as possible, although that might be tough to make...

@Fobstar, again thanks. I'm working on extending some of the puzzles and will definitely look to decorate the level more. Your level is queued

I like that you're actively learning and improving things here, that's great. Lots of cute & humorous stuff here. The level had a good sense of scale and presentation. I like how you go through the whole house, and the whole cat. LOL Pretty good first level if you ask me!2011-03-28 05:02:00

Thanks for all the comments guys, I've just done an update to try and improve on some of those things. I think I might make a level link fly game, although not sure on that on exactly how that will work at the moment 2011-03-28 18:54:00
