An easier way to skip cutscenes?

Archive: 1 post

This is in reference to a playable level, not a movie level.

In short...Can you make a cut scene that can be skipped while taking full advantage of the sequencer with embedded movie cameras? I could not make it work.

Full details...I recently dug myself in to a hole by using a sequencer with movie cameras AND level setup logic to make my cut scene which is in the middle of the level (so to speak). Everything was going well until it was suggested that I make the cut scene skippable. The problem here is the mini-game's setup logic is running as the cut scene plays, so in effect the player gets to watch as things are setup. So if I skip the movie I skip the setup logic. I said to myself "Ok, I can do that. Just break out the setup logic and use timers to sync it with the sequencer." No, not that easy. First, my movie could not be skipped (no option to do that) so long as the cameras were embedded in the sequencer. At least, I could not find a way to do that. When not on a sequencer you can set an option on the camera so it can be skipped. Now I need to break out not only the logic out but the cameras as well. Way more work then I wanted as the sequencer does so much for you in the way of transitions. So, on top of the time I knew it would take to pull out the logic and built something that would run that logic at pace with cut scene OR just run it if the scene was skipped, there was even more time to pull out the cameras and set all the transitions and re-block the shots as moving the camera makes that necessary. Just seems like an unnecessary pain the a** for something that should be possible with a setting.

I do have all this working I just want to make sure there is not a simple way that I overlooked.
