Which story mode is the best?

Archive: 7 posts

Rank the three in order (LittleBigPlanet for the PS3, LittleBigPlanet 2 for the PS3, and LittleBigPlanet for the PSP). I personally haven't played the PSP version, unfortunately, since I do not own a PSP (mostly only care to play the story levels in it, anyway, but that's also a pretty huge incentive).

It's hard to say for the two PS3 games, but I'm going to go with the second one. Its levels are generally longer and more varied, but Avalonia (World 4) is some home to some of the worst levels in LittleBigPlanet history. Other than that, it has a solid list of levels.

What do you guys think?

Easily LBP2's Story Mode is the best one for me, since I loved the levels a lot more than any of those in LBP1. Besides the Savannah I never wanted to play any of the other Story Mode areas in the game because they were either boring or too tedious.2011-02-22 09:13:00

In order:

1. LBP2- Easily the best! Great gameplay, awesome worlds
2. LBP PSP- I personally enjoyed the set out and worlds
3. LBP1- Badly built, a bit boring and pretty repetetive

LBP1
LBP PSP
LBP2

Yes, this is an odd ranking. But LBP1's story was a weird, not really there piece of dream logic that showed the ridiculous possibilities of the imagination. I never knew what was coming next, but I could be certain that it would surprise me, awe me, or make me laugh. It was a road trip that played by no rules except for dream logic.

LBP PSP was a pale imitation of this, and short, but it tried. It was still a road trip, still frequently clever, and like the first game, it brought an incredible soundtrack to bear.

LBP2, on the other hand, constrained it all by narrative. As a tutorial to delve into some of the tricks possible with the film-making kit, it was okay. But the game suffered badly from the introduction of narrative. Instead of being non-existent, the characters were poorly done, and mono-dimensional. It just didn't feel like the trippy, zany ride from the first two games. Instead of free-wheeling dream logic that hints at just how far the imagination can go, it just feels like a poorly done story. There are so many better cut-scenes coming from the community, these are just going to look paler by the week.

LBP1 had the best storymode, levels and, well, story I guess? Also alot of the stuff in LBP1s levels showed off pistons and motors. Like the final boss where you see it for the first time, littered with brains and keys. That just doesn't happen in LBP2, where all the logic and stuff is hidden away. Sure LBP2s story was cool, but it was a little bit too short, a little bit too easy. I'm not saying LBP2s storymode was bad. It was just less better than LBP1s.

LBP PSP, I never played.

I haven't played LBP PSP (besides the demo), but between LBP1 and LBP2 I prefer LBP2's story, as I found it easier to understand and follow (:2011-02-26 10:53:00
