Is zero plays normal?

Archive: 21 posts

Is it normal to publish a level and find after 24 hours that nobody has played it?

Also, are an author's own levels not visible to him on the "Newest" page? Or else how does one get featured on the "Newest" page?

Publish rate is so high that you level get covered very quick on newest levels (how do you think people made 3 mil in 2 years?). Make you friends play a level and adrvitise it on the site

Seems so...I have just 3 plays on mine now and one was a friend. I'd normally get 10-15 plays when first publishing a level in LBP1...my first LBP2 effort went unnoticed for hours. I didn't find it on the Newest page ether. Oh well, at least now I know I don't have to worry about publishing WIP stuff locked! Maybe I'll start a F4F thread tomorrow...2011-02-22 04:47:00

If 0 plays is normal then it's amazing that anyone still makes levels. I guess we're all doing it for our own satisfaction, huh.

It's called "Spirit of Ninja ~Kougeki Attack Densetsu!~. But don't feel you have to go out of your way just for me.

Try giving your level a little boost at the start, if you have any alt accounts use them to play yay and heart your level then republish it. People may be a little more willing to try something if someone else has gone before them and thought it was good.2011-02-22 09:35:00

...why else would you do them other than that or to get paid for?

^ For the satisfaction of others, of course. That wasn't a serious question, was it?2011-02-22 11:37:00

I make levels so that people will enjoy them and thus, I feel better about myself. If my levels werent getting any plays though, Id probably stop making them... But thats just me.2011-02-22 13:46:00

As mentioned, the amount of levels being published is very high, so things get buried fast.

If it was up to me, I'd restrict published levels to (at least) 2.5 hours in create mode. Meaning that in order to publish a particular level, the creator must have worked on it for at least 2 and a half hours. It would avoid a lot of empty levels.

I agree. Also they should have a buffer for when you are able to republish or publish another level. Prevent the spam technique.

Its normal

But like shadowriver said, thats basicly why he explained, you just have to work hard to promote it.

I actually wanted to get into competitions and be able to get a crown and stuff..that was like a year ago ,
Ive been having your same issue since wayyyyy back and I actually stoped caring now wether my level gets noticed or not, thats why I create for myself and for some of my friends, its simple I mean, if I dont like a level, I wont publish it.

Some people are annoying with republishing their levels, after I republished my latest level I went to check the newest levels to find the same level name down by the same author a mininum of five times. That's completely outrageous I don't think there should be a rule to stop people republishing after publishing because I occassionaly have to do that if I've not noticed a slight or big problem with the level until after I publish. Perhaps there should be a limit though on how many times you can publish something within an hour of one publication for example as maximum of two or three publishes to stop people repeatedly publishing their level every five seconds. I think that's how some of those people get noticed so much, just greediness for attention.
The latest level I've made I've republished it a few times but not in the line of minute after minute but that's simply to amend the level and make it better but still it currently has no more than 10 plays. I advertised on here and so far I got one play and that person hasn't yet left me any feedback and somehow I don't think they're going to.
The system is sad but it's LBP, but since I create levels for my own enjoyment seeing few plays will just make me feel sad it won't stop me from making more levels

Anyways the republishing isn't like it used to be. The LBP2 Cool Level Pages work entirely different than in LBP1. I studied LBP1 ones alot and found how they did work but I won't take the time to do it for LBP2.2011-02-22 21:17:00

Had a look at the level's details on lbp.me and you've done everything very well. A few things:

You published on a Monday. From experience, this is the worst day to publish.
My two most popular levels in LBP1 were published on Friday afternoons. The others, during the week and have done ok, but only because of posting here, keys in the popular levels and luck.

The icon is good, but could be more attention grabbing, try using bright neon primary colours as a background. This helps. I'm always scrolling straight past dull icons. Though your current one would get my attention, just not as much as some others may.

In the description, describe the gameplay, is it a survival or a highscore challenge or what?

First thing after publishing a level should be pictures and then a thread in the Levels section here.

I have your level queued for tomorrow night. Hope these points help!

That I can relate, because on Mondays a lot of kids (like me) have to go to school and can't play LBP (and like, lots of players are kids.)

Since I got Mm Picked, and my player hearts sky rocketed up, I always get plays now! But yes this was a VERY annoying thing I suffered too back in LBP12011-02-23 04:17:00

I guess doing a level for my own satisfaction is okay. I feel that I've done a really good job, and had fun while doing it. That's okay with me. Maybe in five years my level will get a few plays by accident and be MM-picked. Of course, we'll all be playing on LBP5 by then.
Not everyone can get a lot of plays, it's just random. The really sad thing is when you see a really poor or glitchy level that got thousands of plays though disliked more than it was liked.

That's LBP2 life. Deal with it.

Getting plays is hard. It seems people need some way of getting to it easily (Cool Pages & MmPicks) or they won't bother. I personally create because it's fun, I don't care that much for plays, but I'd still like some for feedback so I can improve. Such is the the way of LBP2 (and back in the day, LBP1). Mm have tried improving it, but I don't think anything can be done.2011-02-23 15:50:00

Well advertising on forums is supposed to work anyway, when I advertise levels on LBN I get a few plays on there eventually but I posted one on here and only one person on this forum played the level and they never even came back to leave any feedback
Kinda makes me feel like I wasted my time advertising on here
I know it's sad stuff no one wants to hear and I'm sorry but that's just how I feel right now

Oh no, is republish bumping still in this? That was one of the things that made me give up on LBP1. I thought for sure they would correct it this time -_-

Jedi_1993: thanks, I'll keep those tips in mind if I ever make another level.
