What has happened to Cartoon Network?

Archive: 175 posts

I remember when I was younger, the first thing I would do when I got home would go straight to the TV and watch that good old channel. Shows like Ed, Edd,n' Eddy, Dexter's Laboratory, Cow and Chicken, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Powerpuff Girls, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, etc. I spent most of my day on the TV, until my peeps started scolding me to do my homework each day. And I remember Toonami. The highlight of my Saturday nights. As I grew older, the shows started going away and new ones started popping up. Shows like Class of 3000 and Ben 10 where okay and filled my joy up. The when I was growing up I heard the most saddest thing, I found out my Saturday joy, Toonami was getting canclled. That is the worst they can do to me, right? No, they started showing shows like Destroy Build Destroy, Dude, what would happen?, and Bobbie Says. 6Teen made no sense to me, TDI was okay, until they showed TDA, then TDWT. It got stupid to me.

What do you guys think of it?

this has happened with every kids show we all used to watch, they get clouded with horrible shows that no one watches. 2011-02-22 02:56:00

Well...Idk but Cartoon Network wasnt exactly for kids thats the main point see? of course you can still Watch Boomerang, its apart of cartoon network, and it has all those cartoon we love. I still remember them. I dont watch most stuff these days but sometimes Chowder or stuff like adult swim back then etc.

Idk..really just they changed alot. No one really knows. But its hard for kids to have the lives we have, I mean look at what there mostly watching...some of them have sexual innuendos and other stuff....

Though not everyone they gives these days is bad, Flapjack is pretty awesome XD
And Adventure time just makes me lol

I don't have Boomerang so i'm assuming you have to pay or something? And the kids wouldn't have access to that unless their parents subscribed to it.2011-02-22 04:05:00

Never heard of paying for it...unless well here we do have that directv thing so idk, and well no Boomerang isnt exactly for kids.

Toonami well...Toonami is long gone

Those were good times, watching Gundam and all those great shows, Dragon Ball Z, wow I remember the first time they gave naruto.

anyone else remember Friday Night? That awesome treat at the end of the week of my fav shows I still remember most of the intro song Then it slowly went down hill till it was ever so cleverly replaced with some stupid fart-explosion-talking-animals humor friday segment that was hosted by a bunch of snot nosed kids and that title ****** me off so much, they "cleverly" named it Fried Dynamite, a stupid play off of Friday Night if you ask me. I think there is some idiot or group of idiots who I must now label "The Good Idea Fairy" who keeps popping in and saying "zooomg know what would be awesome??" and apparently he works on every kids network ruining today's youth.

I only watch comedy central and discovery now

Last I checked it's a premium channel, so yeah, gotta pay more.
Plays all the old stuff, from Jetsons and Flintstones, to Dexter and the like.

I no longer have cable, but the shows that I was loving (still am thanks to the internet) were Adventure Time and Flapjack. Adventure Time is just straight awesome and filled with more adult humor than most of the stuff on Adult Swim. (Miss it...)

At least CN isn't like what Nick has become. Spongebob and.. uhh.. Spongebob. With bands of as many tween live action they can jam into the program blocks. Kids in the house have it on 24/7 so after awhile you just want to take a cheese grater to your head, to get the theme of iCarly out of your head.

i watch over 10 different new Episode subbed animes online everyweek.
and i can watch all them old great shows they dumbly stopped making like
"The Adventures of Sonic the hedgehog" and pretty much anything else.
My Mom even watches Sci-fi channel shows like "Being human" online.
Face it, TV is dead and has been for ages. watch yo shows online, the internet is the way to go man. *mew

Oh yes.. I remember that awesomeness. To be honest, I think that really was the best show, artistic and story wise, Cartoon Network has ever had. It deserved much more than it got, attention wise.

I probably just replayed Buttercup pegging Cow in the kisser more than I payed attention to the actual episode Only cause I remember that episode so well!

EDIT: My fav episode of Dexter's Lab was either the one when Dexter turns into giant mutant dinosaur and his sister (whats her name??) into mutant chicken thing and they duke it out OR the one when Dexter meets 2 other kids who also have transforming robots and they fight

Dede, you cant hate Dede XD I cant see why dexter hates her lol.
Speaking of all this, they also did give Anime on Toonami and Adult Swin,

Does anyone here remember Wolfs Rain? or Thunder Cats?
Digimon...i dont remember if it was CN...I loved that one when I was kid.

yea, anyone else see the "Big Picture Show"? The last ever ed edd'n'eddie animation? I was kind of sad when they ended it like that cause before that movie there was no end and the ed's would go on having crazy adventures in their cul-de-sac forever

EDIT: Yea its not Dede's fault if Dexter always installs a big red button

Oooooh, how I remembered the glory days!!

Toonami, Chuck Jones, Popeye, Hanna & Barbara, Miguzi, Rocky & Bullwinkle, and every "tv-movie" they made for EVERYTHING... that's when cartoons were at the pinnacle of awesomeness. I feel like I'm getting slammed by a tsunami of nostalgia and fond memories right now, just reminiscing in the hours upon hours I spent watching Loony Tunes and Tom & Jerry in the early morning to staying up extra-late to catch that special episode of DBZ or the Popeye special (9 PM was super late for me when I was, like, 8 xD).

*Sigh*... but I guess kids are more into teenage drama and realism now these days. But what can yah do? :

OMG, Outlaw reminded me of "Toon Heads". I loved that show, especially the one with the tree becoming a toothpick. Good times. OMG there's one I just can't remember the name of. What was it. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Code Lyoko... No. That show was alright. OH I remember. Johnny Bravo.

Outlaw Star, oh... how could I forget about Courage.

Samurai Jack was amazing. I was poking around the net one day and got back into it. I watched the entire series. There never was an ending.

My opinions differ a lot from you '90s era' guys....

I only like a select few cartoons, some new, some older.

Spongebob USED to be great, but not anymore. (It isn't on Cartoon Network anyway....)

Actually, I have never liked Cartoon Network.
Here is a list of the shows I have never liked, as I found them boring and making little sense to me:

Tom and Jerry
Looney Tunes
Ed, Edd and Eddy
Thing with the car robot controlled by the Playstation Controller
Courage the cowardly dog
The powerpuff girls
Scooby doo.
Dexter's Laboratory
Samurai Jack
Cow and Chicken

From this you'd think that I like the newer stuff. Not true. The list continues:

Class of 3000
Ben 10
Ben 10 Alien Force
Ben 10 Ultimate Alien
The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
Destroy Build Destroy
New Pokemon (Hoenn onwards)

Adventure time is the best thing I have ever seen.

I'm not saying that the shows aren't good, but I genuinely detest a lot of that older stuff, and the newer stuff.
Just CN in general.

I stopped watching Pokemon after Johto league (The last chick was Misty, Don, or May). The series seemed repetitive. But I'm sure the newer ones are still just as good.

Oh, who remembers "Robot Jones". It was on for like a week, but still loved it.

@ Tomodon: So what shows did you watch?

@ Inanimacy: LOL. I just read your title. "Believe Me, I'm Lying". <(^w^<)

I saw an episode of pokemon black/white yesterday.
Same old team rocket, and ash acts like a kid again for some reason. :/
(meowth beats new zubat (I assume, it was never shown how TR caught it), new zubat beats ash's bird, but meowth can't beat the bird!? What the?)

I haven't seen anyone mention it yet, but "Regular Show" is funny. I find as amusing as Adventure time.
I recommend it!

You've got that the other way round, Bloo. The live-action Beetlejuice came first, and the animated TV series was based on it.

Cartoon Network doesn't make any sense any more, lol. I miss Toonami. Also I've been seeing these commercials lately that are promoting Cartoon Network's live-action shows (irony much), and they seem to be targeting teens, as if they're trying to get some of their old audience back. Maybe I should put that commercial in the Favorite Fails topic, lol.2011-02-22 17:13:00

I never watched those shows, and anime in english is unbearable, a show like deathnote.. with the music an all.. would have seemed downright corny in english, so as far as i care, the cartoon network never needed to exist. I take a potato chip!2011-02-22 17:29:00

You know Craig's (creator of this show and the Powderpuff Girls) wife (co-creator) made a new series, right?

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqgsXkmQ6ZI)

It's the manliest show you can see on television nowadays!

Okay, not really. But the plot and characters aren't half bad... and they have epic .jpg faces most of the times. :3

Tom and Jerry weird me out now, seeing just how much violence is in that show. Like that one episode with the king, where at the end Tom gets his head cut off. Made me wtf as a kid.

yyyeeaa but they go a bit further on Nick :O I saw a spongebob episode in which a certain hot dog is added to the menu, but someone just couldnt help putting in some innuendo every 10 seconds. Most obvious when a women fish thing says something like "That krusty wiener just exploded!" >=( come on people.

back on topic though I have another favorite episode! Power Puff Girls the episode when mojo-jojo creates the Rowdy Ruff Boys with snips and snails and puppy dog tails mixed in a prison toilet

Invader Zim... THOSE BAS****S CANCELLED ONE OF THE GREATEST SHOWS!!!

I remember the Rowdy Rough Boys. Too bad they only had one episode.

To this day my favorite line on Spongebob was "Spongebob, we have technology" Patrick slams a computer on the dollar bill. XD

It's also funny when a crowd gets hurt, they have "My LEG" in the background. It's funny for some reason.

Both on Nick, but very good shows.

I remember the Rowdy Rough Boys. Too bad they only had one episode.

Three actually. 1) their first appearance, 2) Him revives them, 3) grown up versions (it was in a "newer" episode of the show, not much story but rather a sequence of "flashbacks").

I know my Craig and Lauren shows. >:3

To this day my favorite line on Spongebob was "Spongebob, we have technology" Patrick slams a computer on the dollar bill. XD

It's also funny when a crowd gets hurt, they have "My LEG" in the background. It's funny for some reason.

Don't forget this:

LOL. That's the 3rd or 4th favorite Spongebob quote.

I forgot him revives them. Him... that was a clever name.

I know the thread is CN, but they are all great. Besides, we basically went over all the.... GUMBY! I forgot about Gumby. I don't think he was on CN though.

Actually, there's still one more I can't remember that was on CN... Atom Ant... He was cool. TIME SQUAD. I think that's the one. Why did they cancel that show? It was good. Flesh eating robots made by Eli.

After they killed off Toonami, Cartoon Network went downhill from there. I have no problem watching the the old shows like Johnny Bravo thanks to Boomerang. Now, I only look at Cartoon Network for movies and for Saturdays. I'm in to Adult Swim on there for the anime and such.

To me, Cartoon Network should not be called Cartoon Network. It's more like Humanity Network because of stupid shows like the one with those three guys on there. Bad attempt at trying to be like Disney and Nick.

all awsome animes. I think they finally ended Inuyasha. I got bored of it anyways. They kept showing reruns too much.

Inuyasha still plays only it's in the wee hours of the night. 4 A.M. I believe. I'm still waiting until they bring Inuyasha: The Final Act series over. I've watched all of it in Japanese on Hulu.com. The reason anime isn't showing up during weeknights is because it's all been moved to Saturdays.
The only shows on now is Bleach, FMA Brotherhood, Kekkashi, Big O, Ghost in the Shell and I think Cowboy Bebop too. I think that was switched out with Big O.

It annoys me to see the network become something like Nick (the network), mainly because it was the only place I can see cartoons when I was 12-13 and still feel pretty mature because the shows had better "quality" the other networks. But with the new shows that either have a horrible plot, lame jokes, or both, it's not even worth going to that channel anymore.

And on that note, I want to add that Toonami was one of the best things to have happened to me. It was because of that program that I learned, and eventually became hooked, onto one of my favorite game series: Sly Cooper.

Toonami was the first to give "mini-reviews" of Sly 2 and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, along with cheat codes for various actions during commercial breaks.

In fact, Sucker Punch was happy enough to make an easter egg for the show.

And that is why I will always remember Toonami as my favorite program to have ever aired on telelvision. <3

I love the way new anime looks. Some of the old anime art styles/coloring shading whatever freaks me out sometimes.

Regular show i gotta admit it makes me lol XD I still cant believe it cause since I saw it I said "that sucks" but im actually suprised about it. And Adventure of course is good.

And I wouldnt say its crap right now, Last time I check there now giving a whole bunch of Ed,edd and eddys and Dexter episode, some of them not new but I did notice a difference in animation.

Dexter especially, looks a bit more smoother now, and its definatly not my TV, I cant even afford a cellphone.

To tell the truth though, Cartoon Network would be as good as the times before if they didn't have all the live action shows.

It's "CARTOON" Network, not Kids Bop Television.

WHAT YOU TALKING ABOUT BREMNEN?

Family Guy
Simpsons
All FOX cartoons basically
Southpark
All Comedy Central cartoons
Robot Chicken
Adult Swim

Some cartoons have gotten a lot better over the years.

I don't mean to sound rude. (I REALLY DON'T) Have you ever watched Adventure Time or Regular Show?

lol. I watched them when y'all started talking about them in this thread, and were actually pretty funny. Some parts were pretty childish, but there's grownup humor in them too.

tbh really if CN minused reality then it wouldn't be a bad channel. I mean the cartoons are pretty good, it's just that reality gets in the way.

(Oh yeah, I woke up this morning ready to watch Pokemon (DON'T JUDGE MEH! >.<) but instead I found a bunch of 'Hole in the Wall.' Seriously, I could have just searched 'Japanese game shows' on youtube and gotten a better experience. Trust me, the Jap versions of that game show are waaaay funnier C: )

Haha! To me, that was the last decent show left on Cartoon Network to me. The new shows just don't appeal to me at all. I think it's a combination of the later ones not being my taste, more stupid humor than witty humor, and me just getting less into cartoons at that point.

The older ones -- Scooby-Doo, Johnny Bravo, Flintstones, The Jetsons, Cow and Chicken (or whatever it was called), and Batman Beyond were the best, in my opinion. It makes me sad thinking about them being gone...

It was great being able to laugh at Bravo's failures...

No seriously, I'm stuck watching kids tv all the time nowadays due to my ten month old developing an interest in the tv. Mostly we're watching the Disney Channel. Anyone seen the Imagination Movers? It's aimed at like pre-school kids, and boy, if you look hard enough in ANY show, you will find innuendo.

In fact looking for innuendo is about the only thing that keeps me entertained while she's glued to the tv!

Tbh theres like, 3 cartoon channels on basic cable. With so few channels aimed at kids, it doesn't matter what the channel is called, they automatically default to Kids channels, not Cartoon channels. If they want to show live action shows aimed at kids, there's no "Live Action Network", is there?2011-02-27 02:11:00

Actually theres a whole bunch of channels that are only aimed at kids, depend on what you mean by kids though.
Though ive seen on dish, not sure if anywhere else...they separated cartoon network between 2.

Not boomerang. just one is for just cartoons and in the other those live action shows etc, i still think its silly anyway...

Cartoon Network was never a kids (between 4-7) channel...thats the mistake they did with everything, Nick I think...im not sure I think they had 2 back then.

Nick Toons and forgot the other...

Don't know. I just remember that that episode was one of my favorites. I think it was also the one with the inventions of tomorrow.

I remember Jackie Chan Adventures with the talismans. The chicken, pig, the Chinese zodiac. Then they had the animals with the powers, the gods, and then I forget. It was the same thing over and over again.

Hey does anyone remember this show about a girl who pressed the button "Enter" on her keyboard and she went inside her computer? Then something about copying the abilities of the people she found and fought in the computer? I can't remember what it was about at all. I was really young when I watched it, and I think it was playing at around the same time Cardcaptor Sakura(I mean as in the same year or so). I don't know if anyone knows what I mean, but I've been really trying to find the name of that show and no one seems to know it Makes me sad because it was such an awesome show X( Sorry to change the topic drastically.....kind of 2011-03-03 04:59:00

That would be Tiger of the Wind. Weird name for a wolf with horns.
Anyone remember Jackie Chan Adventures and Beyblade from way back then? And I don't mean the one on CN now. They're wannabes.

Beyblade was awesome, and Yu gi oh back then, Now that Isee your awesome avatar, did you know there was a Donkey Kong Show back then? I remember I would watch it alot, I havent searched it yet, but Ill post a video when I do.

I remember It was a very old show, not sure if it was on cartoon network though, I think it was on 4kids channel.

CN is trying too hard to outreach to teenagers. That's the problem. But, they are succeeding in some respects. Regular Show is soooooo weird that it is hystarical to me.2011-03-03 22:30:00

XD Luckily, CN still has a weak pulse every Monday and Friday.

I love YJ, Adventure Time, and Regular Show, they are awesome! . . . Generator Rex is okay, I guess. And then I try to watch TV any other day of the week, and nothing but crap or reruns.

Regular Show is kinda freaky, I was watching an episode where they were throwing a party, and that guy who starts from the party commercial licks a person's ear. I would like to see kids getting kicked out of school for reenacting it.

Al those shows are that weird. I think Flapjack was the weirdest. They always had those closeups with a lot of detail.2011-03-05 22:22:00

I stopped watching TV years ago. why? because i can watch whatever i want for free online.
i watch over 10 different new Episode subbed animes online everyweek.
and i can watch all them old great shows they dumbly stopped making like
"The Adventures of Sonic the hedgehog" and pretty much anything else.
My Mom even watches Sci-fi channel shows like "Being human" online.
Face it, TV is dead and has been for ages. watch yo shows online, the internet is the way to go man. *mew

You do realise that if everyone watched shows online, we'd have nothing to watch right? If everyone watched their favourite shows online, then the shows you love would get cancelled cause they'll have terrible ratings. All we'd be left with is soap operas and reality TV D: Infact this is already effecting great shows like Fringe (though more so it just isn't getting enough viewers due to being put on a terrible time slot. Fools).
I download/stream tv shows because I'm in uni and can't watch TV (or watch programs not on over here), but I probably wouldn't recommend it.

However The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was indeed awesome. Favourite TV program from my early childhood (later it was things like Dexters Lab/Recess).

Websites make loads of money off of the free viewing. There's advertisements and others. Hulu has advertisements on their shows.

I like Fringe too, but its story is a little (IMO) dumb. If you think about it, it makes no sense.

Back on topic:

OH MY GOD!!! How could I froget about Recess. Loved that show. Doug too.

I can still remember my favorite episodes of Recess: the one where Spinelli draws a mural on the playground and everyone is trying to save it, and the one where they take recess out of Recess.

"I call it . . . reckess."

Very true, but it's not about that money when it comes to deciding if a show should get cancelled, it's the ratings

And I love it because of that very reason haha! I like it for the same reason I like Lost, an attempt at a realistic take on Sci-Fi stuff. Makes no sense, but it makes for great TV

And yes, Recess is amazing. I swear I've seen every episode multiple times. Such a brilliant program.

RATINGS IS MONEY BABY!!! IT'S WHAT MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND!!!

But yeah, ratings only matter because the higher ratings it gets, the more money they can make off it.

Was it "Rocket Power"? That had sports, and one of the characters was named Otto. Another was named Squid; he had a shark helmet.

Oh, how I miss Hey Arnold. Monkey diseases, fruit costumes, prune juice drugs, giant trout . . . Wow, these are from a long way back. And the Wild Thornberries! I used to love Eliza. The series finale was ingenius.

Has anyone seen this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj52VF4IreA

"4 friends and I stumbled upon an open door at the recently abandoned Nickelodeon Studios around thanksgiving 2006. We got in, and noticed it was pitch black, but that by jumping over two escaltors you could get into the studios. So we bought a Shrek flashlight from a store nearby, went back, and investigated the studios. We saw just about everything, slime kitchen, main studios, upstairs, everything. In retrospect I wish I had taken more photographs and videos, but it was a really neat experience. And no, I have not gone to jail "

This was during the transition period while ownership of the studio was being transferred from Universal Studios to Universal Orlando. The staff evidently left quite a few things in the building, such as pictures, doodads, and all sorts of neat memorabilia. The studios and sets were also preserved. I can't believe they left the place wide open! Such an experience is a once in a lifetime chance.

Anyone happen to know what the studios and props in the video were used for?
