Basic knowledge: How to create hologram stickers
Archive: 8 posts
(rewrote post for brevity) So today I found out how holographic materials are supposed to work visually! Step 1: Cover the material in a black sticker, make sure its completely covered. Step 2: Add a sticker you want to be a hologram. Step 3: Dance. You'll end up with a completely invisible piece of holographic material - except for your sticker you placed over the black sticker. Optional Step 4: Change the colour of your holographic material from white to something else. Doing this you can colourize your sticker hologram (for best results start with a WHITE sticker). E.g. I just made a collected object that counts down from 9 to 0 in white digital holographic numbers. I could control the colour of the numbers by dimming between on/off, perhaps to make them turn more red the closer they are to 0. | 2011-02-21 23:32:00 Author: merkaba48 ![]() Posts: 79 |
Can you explain step 2? I didn't understand it completely | 2011-03-05 06:30:00 Author: rambo3416 ![]() Posts: 179 |
they mean cover the hologram in a black round/square sticker(make it as big as it can be to cover the whole object) then apply ANY sticker u want/like! DONE lol | 2011-03-05 07:59:00 Author: XELLAmunster ![]() Posts: 89 |

I don't get it. does this make the sticker you placed hologram or does it make the sticker a sticker in the form of the shape of the hologram? | 2011-03-06 03:26:00 Author: LBP2_Tutorialist ![]() Posts: 225 |
I don't get it. does this make the sticker you placed hologram or does it make the sticker a sticker in the form of the shape of the hologram? it masks parts of the holographic material so that only certain parts show through... If you've used mask's in Photoshop before they work the same way, black or any shade of, mask's the parts of the hologram, so full black area is invisible, regardless of the opacity of the hologram, so say you cover the hologram in a black material, then stick a sticker of a number over the black colored hologram, only the number will show, work particularly well with black and white, colors do work but can have some funny coloring issues when using colored holograms, - another tip if you reduce the opacity of the holographic material, the sticker will reduce the it's opacity as well - so the number will be slightly invisible in this example this technique is really good for creating custom huds and what not. | 2011-03-06 03:46:00 Author: Spyre-wolf ![]() Posts: 63 |
That makes more sense. Thanks | 2011-03-06 21:17:00 Author: LBP2_Tutorialist ![]() Posts: 225 |
