(Mm Picked!) How to Catch a Sackboy! [Funny Movie]
Archive: 24 posts
LBP.me link: "Click here to Queue this Level" (http://lbp.me/v/x37j-9) My take on classic looney tunes cartoon (Coyote Vs. Roadrunner), using the Collector and Sackboy. Add explosives and cross-dressing, and let the hilarity begin... This may be the first movie on LBP which primarily stars a piece of cardboard... Even if you're not much of a LBP-movie fan, I think its novelty still means it's worth a look. I'll work on getting a few pictures added so that you can see for yourself. It's only a few minutes long, so please queue it up and give it a try! If you don't get past the little intro film to the part where you choose an episode... let me know. I'd like to make sure the level's not broken. UPDATE: Here's a video... it's from before the updates to the level, but the "episode" is still the same. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5jQON12ERU http://i55.tinypic.com/n3kheg.jpg http://i52.tinypic.com/2imbdxe.jpg http://i56.tinypic.com/331nkgy.jpg | 2011-02-21 20:09:00 Author: Sickivionkey Posts: 70 |
nice to see the collector back - on option 1 it stopped after the second film (with the bomb canon and the sackboy wanting the price bubble on the rope) blackscreen - why do you need the choose? just connect all films together and make a film out of it :3 would be better i guess? i get bored if i need to start the level again to see the rest - the film itself was funny and no need to change anything! greetings! if you do F4F plz go there: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=49851-Little-Big-LUMINES-Puzzle-Fusion&p=778580 thank you! | 2011-02-21 21:02:00 Author: ForcesWerwolf Posts: 475 |
I'll play your level within the next day or so! When you say it broke, do you have any guess why? Did it work when you chose the other movie? It should go: Intro film (Title and Sackboy jumping) >> Stage Select 1 >> Movie >> Stage Select 2 >> Movie >> End Platform. It's working fine on my machine, so I'm having difficulty figuring out what might be broken. Just a really long load time? | 2011-02-21 21:40:00 Author: Sickivionkey Posts: 70 |
stage select 1 >> movie >> blackscreen if it would be a loading time the loading icon would flashing or something but it was fully blackscreen maybe lbp was crashed. don't worry. but i was able to restart per start menu. | 2011-02-21 22:09:00 Author: ForcesWerwolf Posts: 475 |
I will certainly give this one a look. I will add it to my queue. | 2011-02-21 23:50:00 Author: TimeH33 Posts: 51 |

Totally thought about making this myself. I'll have a play then edit in my feedback. EDIT: That was pretty good! Funny stuff. You captured the spirit of Coyote Vs. Roadrunner well. That intro with the freezing characters is prefect. Cameras, characters and animations were great. However the level links are very annoying. After sequence one (cannon) finished, I was left with a black screen for so long, I just restarted. (The second time I loaded the level, it worked fine) I would have also preferred to sit back and watch them all in one go, cutting out the interactive section. (if it was 100% film, it would be even more like the cartoon). The only thing that didn't fit, is how the rock moved over the collector during scene 4. Which 99% of the time in the cartoon, they explain (via ramp/trampoline/etc) I would have loved to see the truck/meep meep style gag, or the classic one when coyote is standing on thin air, then falls down. Perhaps you could use a sequence of emitters for the perspective? Plus something with a dust cloud? I always loved those gags too. Hearted! Just realised you did Trial of Seasons, one of my all time fav levels. No wonder this level is good. | 2011-02-22 04:47:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
EDIT: Posted thorough review ingame. I loved the Roadrunner cartoons when I was young and I think you've done an excellent job of re-creating it with LBP2-style mixed in. The settings were outstanding and the gags were very well animated, all the way down to the sign gag. I only ran into problems after the 1st and 3rd clip with a failed transition and had to restart it twice. I was also able to click the button twice for more points (very minor). Great job! ^^ My F4F, https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=49476-Defend-the-Castle!-%28Looking-for-Pointers-Suggestions%29 | 2011-02-22 05:19:00 Author: Unknown User |
Awesome level, I really liked it =) I also got a black screen at the end of the canon section, I had to restart the game, all buttons were unresponsive. I think it must be a problem with the level linking itself, not your level. | 2011-02-22 09:38:00 Author: Gekkoton Posts: 4 |
Alright. Based on feedback (and broken links) I think I'm going to take out the interactive part. Hopefully all the emitters will fit in one level without an insane loading time. *@#*$# level links. Midnight Heist >> I had quite a few episodes planned... one of which would have been the classic "paint a tunnel, then have a truck come out of it" routine. Would have been funny if I could simulate the create-mode sticker mechanic... Also, I agree about the rock moving suddenly... although I've seen it happen at least once before. Does the record scratch not sell it? Oh well, at some point I decided I had to just take my three or four best ideas, put them in, and cut the project loose. Otherwise it would never be out. You know I originally intended on making all four seasons for Trial of Seasons? You see how far I got with that... I'm thinking about picking that Trial of Seasons project back up again with a different spin to it. | 2011-02-22 11:59:00 Author: Sickivionkey Posts: 70 |
Broken level links... yea, otherwise it's an a throwback to the Looney Tunes of my childhood. Good work, dude. Good work. | 2011-02-22 12:12:00 Author: nerthus Posts: 28 |
I like but a little broken. I was just on the cannon part and at the end I get a black screen. Its not loading as there is no symbol. | 2011-02-22 13:41:00 Author: TimeH33 Posts: 51 |
Very good level, the intro was awesome and the methods of death were really well done. This is a perfect and brilliant example of a movie done fantastically in LBP2! Oh yeah and a level link seemed broken after the rocket death. Not sure, but I had to restart to see the others. Hearted! It was a very funny and entertaining level though I had problems with the level links too, when I picked the missile one it froze on backscreen afterwards, when I picked the cannon that one worked fine but with long loading time but when I replied the cannon one again it was blackscreen so I think there are some problems with the level links probably more of a glitch on LBP itself with it since they sometimes work and sometimes don't. Just one suggestion since the links seem glitchy but I don't know how much thermo those sections take but could you not put all those vids into one level and have it like go from one to the other without the players having to do anything? Just a suggestion if the thermo is possible. You did really well on the music as well, that cannon one I recognised that music from Bizet's carmen, Habanera, wish I could recreate that type of thing that was really good. Overall good level was a bit short and repreitive with having to keep playing through it to see all the different sections. Would have been better if you could have put it into one level. Maybe you did it that way because of thermo space, if not then it's just something for to you think about. Could you take a look a this level I think you'll like it, I made it recently and it's quite a humourous movie level https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=50590-Return-of-the-Evil-Rangers-(Movie) | 2011-02-22 16:47:00 Author: Elsa Posts: 164 |
Brilliant idea, brilliantly executed. However, it does say at the beginning "Press start to skip intro", but if you do this you end up back in your pod....! F4F: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=50639-Simon-s-Cat&p=784938&posted=1#post784938 EDIT: It killed my PS3 I watched plan 1 and then I just got a black screen which I couldn't do anything about... Very wierd! | 2011-02-22 17:36:00 Author: spitfire842 Posts: 22 |
I rather like the idea of choosing a plan! But on the other hand it is a bit of a hassle. EDIT: Just played, simply amazing! | 2011-02-22 18:35:00 Author: IndyFord Posts: 55 |
That was an very impressive and funny movie. I think a the beginning after the intro, you should have all four shorts be viewable instead of just 2 clips per play, this way players can see up to four scenes then players can exit the level when they're done. VISUALS: The rocky cliff design definitely reminds me of "Looney Tunes". What a great twist mixing the Road Runner vs. Coyote with LBP. SOUND: Great custom music that matches the theme of "Looney Tunes" and brilliant use of sound effects. OVERALL: It's a movie everyone has to see to be prepare for laughs and excitement. A yeah vote, a heart, and a positive review. F4F "Cybernetic Adventures Alpha" | 2011-02-22 21:46:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
I happened to run across this level last night with a Lucky Dip... and boy did I get lucky! This was hilarious and by far my favorite movie in LBP2. I would definitely like to see more. | 2011-02-22 22:03:00 Author: Unknown User |
Okay, I'm back from work... and getting tons of positive feedback. THANKS. I'm going to test the method of having four videos selectable from one menu, with an option to exit, trying to eliminate the level links. I'll post here when I'm done (or if I fail...), and I'd love it if any of you would play through again to tell me if I fix the problem. (I haven't been able to recreate the problem once on my machine...) Also, for F4F: STOP!!! I will play everyone's level posted above THIS POST over the next few days, but please give me time to catch up. I have to work for a living you know... (plus I just bought Marvel Vs Capcom 3... ;P) | 2011-02-22 23:38:00 Author: Sickivionkey Posts: 70 |
2/23 UPDATE: 1) All four episodes are now selectable from one menu after the opening cinematic. (It still uses one level link... but I'm hoping that works well enough...) 2) The music is now available in prize bubbles at the episode select screen. Not sure how well it will apply to anyone else's level, but I got a lot of requests. 3) This new method gave me a chance to improve the exit and get a much better shot of the "that's all folks". So overall, thank you all for your feedback! I think you've really helped me improve what I thought was the best I could do. Nothing like a little community support to push you over the edge! P.S., I don't know if anyone noticed, but there is a little tribute to LBP Central somewhere in the level. Keep an eye out if you play through. | 2011-02-23 04:41:00 Author: Sickivionkey Posts: 70 |
Hey, watched this before your u[pdate (i think) so can only really comment on th emove. As to that comment, er.... erm..... neep neep? It was really funny, you''ve encapsulated the looney toons feel just right, the opening sequence itself made me laff My F4F thread https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=50851-Shakespear-turns-in-his-grave...&p=786566 | 2011-02-24 00:05:00 Author: MuddledMuppet Posts: 115 |
Added a video that someone was kind enough to make of the original level. Also, Mm Picked. | 2011-02-25 11:56:00 Author: Sickivionkey Posts: 70 |
I played this last night shortly before the mm pick (congrats on that, you lbp celebrity). Loved it, my favorite movie so far, and though it has obvious inspirations, it felt wholly original. Don't know about the old menu but the new one is great, no issues. I'm hoping for a sequel. I have to show this to the wife and kids today. Thanks for the level - I loved the coyote/road runner films as a kid, and this equaled them in style, timing, and humor. Well deserved mm pick. | 2011-02-25 15:30:00 Author: Hoplyte Posts: 100 |
Great job sir. I typically stay away from LBP movies because most of them frankly aren't that great, but this was truly good. Loved it! | 2011-02-26 13:52:00 Author: Dietomaha Posts: 156 |
