Adventures Of A Space Monkey

Archive: 15 posts

Hey guys,
I've just finished Part One of my 'Adventures Of A Space Monkey' series.
The first part is an intro film / teaser trailer which sets up the story to follow...
It will be an original space themed story, paying homage to some classic Sci Fi films along the way.

I worked hard to create some decent space scenes ( Which was harder than I thought it would be ),
but i'm really happy with the end results.
Some of the most beautiful shots came from using the Galaxy 'Glitch'.
( Note - Its not really a glitch, not sure if i'm the first to discover it but i haven't seen it used or mentioned yet so i'm gonna claim it! lol. its a bit hard to use but the results can be breath taking! If you want to know what it is or how to use it just let me know.)

Anyway back on track, I'd really love some constructive feedback / comments and will repay the favor.

Cheers Guys!

hmm i love this galaxy shots and even the build galaxy stuff looks nice!
just would suggest that you shorten up the gorillas a little bit and make the text readable when you first show it zoomed (the space*monkey text i mean) zoom from left to right so people can read it letter per letter. why backwards and wrong sided?
other than that. nice taste! but you should add a little bit what makes the player want to wait for the next level. and fave it. like a little twist. maybe he got captured on the planet or something... dunno it's your story you know what will happen.

i hope i helped you!

Thanks for the feedback!
I was experimenting with the title sequence and thought it looked quite cool, but i take on board what you said,
Agree that the gorilla bit needs a bit of editing.

I just spotted a thread in one of the forums, how typical is that! lol
Still gonna call it the galaxy glitch though cos it sounds cool.
Like i said its not really a glitch, more of an easter egg, If you take the Evil magic eye and enlarge it, then zoom into the center you get the effect. It is a bit glitchy though cos the eye keeps blinking, but with a bit of patience you can get some amazing shots.

I've queued your level and will try and play it tonight.

Cheers again.

I'll play anything with monkeys in it.
Cool stuff!
Those galaxy shots look pretty amazing. :o Worth a play just to see them.
The rest is good too!
Is the sequel going to be a platformer or purely cinematic?
I'll play em either way.

Aloha, Very nice work. I enjoyed viewing it. Especially the scene with several galaxys in it. Was it a big custom sticker?
and the lighting was nice too. I did spot one instance during that scene when the perspective was skewed and it showed
some weird material in the lower right hand corner. Not sure if you can remove that or not.

I might suggest adding an additional hideable lightsource to the full screen sun scene with the silloutted planets in front of
it. It looked rather plain in comparison to the sun during the ape scene. I rather enjoyed that as well. Thought it was about
to break into 2001 a space odyssey theme lol.

Also agree with the suggestion provided for the final text scrolling segment, while the scene was nice over all the reverse
scrolling was a bit counter productive. Why not let people spell it out hehe.
So this is going to be a series of movies? I'll keep an eye on it for sure.

Holy crap. I wasn't expecting a whole lot, but this is really good!
The galaxy stuff looked really nice (for a second I thought I was watching discovery channel) and all of the enivronments and acting were well-done.
I especially liked how you used the different colored gases to make the ship blast off. Very visually pleasing.
'Yay'd and Hearted. Good work!

The cinematic value is incredible. The only thing I could notice short of perfection was one frame featuring a pink eclipsed moon where the image was slightly off center (noticeable black bar on the right side). Once again, beautiful work, can't wait to see how it plays.2011-02-22 16:20:00

Wow some great feedback

Midnight_heist - Gotta love monkeys! Yeah the early idea is to have parts 2 and 3 as platforming levels, Part 2 will take place on the alien planet and will involve more monkeys. Part 3 will take the story somewhere else...

Fated for failure - No it wasn't a sticker, i used what im gonna call the Galaxy 'Glitch' ( See earlier post for details), I wish it was a sticker though cos it would have been a lot easier. lol. I'll look at the eclipse scene cos it does look a bit plain after the galaxy shots, but i think maybe any shot might after those? but maybe some subtle lighting effects will do the trick. Yeah i dropped in a few homages to 2001, will try and put a few more 'nods' to other classic Sch Fi films along the way. I'll look at the title sequence again, maybe i was trying to be too smart.. lol

Sack Jack - Thanks for the good review, glad i surprised you! lol. I've queued up your level, will hopefully play it tonight.

Shantdog - can i ask you a question? your the second person to mention something appearing or not being right in the far corners, did you watch it on a wide screen tv cos i haven't noticed any of these things? I've only got an old 'normal' tv, so i've set every shot up to that and i looks right when i watch it...
