Inception (FILM)

Archive: 12 posts

Wanted to share my LBP2 level with everyone. Literally spent 24 hours working on this level and I would really like some people to tell me if all the hard work was worth it

Let me know what you all think. Feedback, suggestions, and constructive criticism are all welcome. Thanks for taking a look.

Not a problem, man. Queued up. Appreciate everyone who has checked out my film so far. Has all positive rates, with the exception of someone who rated it negative without even watching it :/

Thanks guys!

Yeah, it sucks, but there's nothing that can really be done about it, though it would be nice if MM made it so you have to play the level for a certain amount of time before you can give a legitimate review.

Thanks for watching my film too, Muppet. I really liked yours as well. Did you create the music yourself?

Yeah, it's a fantastic movie. I hope I can match your expectations I want to try and recreate some of the music to make the film a bit more authentic. Gonna be a challenge because I've never played around with the music sequencer before.

I'll queue it if you tell me this, will it spoil the movie for me? I haven't seen it yet and would like to keep everything unexpected.

Could you give my movie a spin? http://lbp.me/v/x4xk3s

Assuming you already know the basic premise/idea behind the movie (which, if you've seen the trailers you probably do), my level shouldn't spoil anything for you. I only cover the opening 10-15 minutes or so, which leans more towards the action side of things in the movie. If you don't know anything about the general subject matter of the movie, then I would say watch the movie before you watch my film.

I've got yours in my queue.

Hi, first off allow me to apologise, I watched this (along with a few other levels) and completely forgot to come on here and feedback, blame MM for making LBP2 just too **** addictive!

Anyhoo...

You show a good understanding of the use of cameras to help tell your story, but I do think some of the transitions could do with some tweaking, hard to think of 'em all in here, if ever you want to go thru them together give me a yell if i'm on chances are I'll be happy to do so.

My next point, is a very personal point of view, so feel free to tell me to shoosh

I don't like magic mouths in mvoies.

There, I said it, now I'll wait for the attacks!

Basically, I think they're suitable for cut scenes in games, but tte noise and appearance in mvies (ie a cut scene that is the full thang not just a part of a level) is rarely good, unless you really really want it as a comioc effect. Even then, that comic effect has already been done to death.

For me, they just make me want to go do something else, others may well feel different, but hey this is my feedback after all

All that aside, the film had pace, a good concept and was fairly good in the layout of set, I suspect tho that like me you perhaps rush a level/film out without REALLY scrutinising it for attention to detail. (that point Im applying equally to myself)
I'll certainly be watching any more that you do!

Thanks for all the feedback, Muppet. Honestly, I had contemplated not using magic mouths and sticking with just subtitles for the speech; I wasn't sure how a "silent" film would feel/play though. Now that you've suggested it, I might go back and switch them out and give it a test run.

Definitely want to tweak some of the cameras as well, so I'm glad you brought that up. My initial concern was making sure I had the script accurate and solid set pieces; camera work was secondary, so I would say I definitely didn't focus there with as much detail as I would've liked to. Good thing we can always go back and rework things, which I've done a little bit of

Still toying around with things but slowly but surely I'll get it exactly the way I want.

Thanks again for the comments, Muppet.

Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't quite sure how to end the level without moving into the next dream sequence that follows in the movie. I figured the best thing to do would be to emulate the flooding of the palace as Cobb begins to wake up. I'm definitely open to suggestions if you guys have any better ways to go about concluding the film.

I will say it feels great to see as many plays as I have, as well as likes. It makes all the hard work I put into making the level worth it. Thanks again to everyone who played it or will play it going forward! Stay tuned for some updates/changes once I get some free time to work on it again.
