Enemy Creation Problems

Archive: 9 posts

Hi, I've begun working on a level I've wanted to create since day one but I've hit a wall early on and was hoping someone with map creating experience can help.

I've created the enemies I want in the level and managed to give them moving arms with a wobble bolt and a brain that is set on proximity follow with a wheel for transportation. It all works fine, it begins coming at me when I enter the assigned proximity and follows me when I move around.

What's an enemy that can't hurt you though? So I went ahead and threw some spikes on them for a test run but as soon as I did they stopped following me. You can hear the brain working when you enter the proximity but they don't move. I've tried adding different elements of danger to them but everytime I do they stop following me. Can someone please tell me whats happening? (Do I have to build an enemy in some specific order for everything to work?) Thank you!

Try adding the brain after you complete the monster.2008-11-21 02:49:00

Try removing the brain and reattaching a new one.

Edit: I believe I was just ninja'd.

I tried removing the brain and putting a new one on after adding the hazardous components and it still didn't work. I did however play around with removing other key components besides the brain and putting new ones on after adding the hazard parts.

I'm happy to say I got it working! For some reason I had to add the hazards before the wheel was on, then attach a wheel last? I can't think of any good reason for this but i'm over it now !!

Thank you Code and BassDeluxe for giving me the winning idea!!!

I'd wager most likely, when you attached new items, it "reattached" the wheel to the floor... I've done that a few times... You have to make sure you detatch the object from the floor, then add the items. When it hits the floor again, the wheel should work normally.2008-11-21 18:21:00

I'd almost guarantee you accidentally stuck it to the floor lol.2008-11-21 18:32:00

Most likely -_-... After posting that I'd got it working I tried creating a new enemy and the same thing happened... I'm building them suspended in the air but I must be somehow locking it down. Blargh. Thanks for the repslies everyone, I'll keep trying to find the error in my ways >_<;;2008-11-22 01:26:00

I've found that adding the brain last causes the enemy to not function properly.

You may want to try to look for anything that could be obstructing the path of the wheel. Do you have anything thin connected to the enemy?
