The way of the samurai

Archive: 24 posts

A level I've been thinking of making for a long time. A simple concept, yet a complicated level with insane logicks. The basic idea is to fight 4 waves of enemies, with an increasing difficulty, and a boss. The level contains an opening cutscene and a start menu. There is an instruction video in game.

Played this yesterday and gave it a .

Very cool looking level, liked the special lightning attacks, just wished it was longer before the boss showed up. You could possibly make a similar styled level that is purely a survivial challenge level with an endless supply of regular enemies so people can compete for high scores.

I like it but for some reason something happens where i just start losing points for no reason when I'd been doing good and something kills me, I think just fix that but I like the level other than that, japanese stuff is cool to me, and I agree if it were a survival challenge it would be better, seems like people like to try to get the high score. but this looks cool, i like it its just not perfect.

edit: the -10's start ringing up on the left side of the screen, and my right side lightning bolts flash out the left side going right, I'm not sure whats happening over there, maybe the boss is getting stuck or something and still attacking me and I cant see it.. IDK, if you let me in your level maybe i could take a look at it.

f4f thread in sig, thanks!

That was COOL!

Really liked the visual style and the responsive controls!
Maybe you could expand this into a more story driven experience? I would play it, for sure!

I know getting plays is a hassle.. Especially when you see that crappy levels get thousands of plays!
Just don't quit creating, 'cause people who like quality levels are still going to appreciate it.

BTW, have you tried using a direction splitter to limit the slash buttons down to one? It picks up what direction you're holding the left stick and triggers the animations and emitting accordingly.

Wow! Thanks everyone most feedback I've gotten since...ever... Anyway! I'll surely F4F u all during this week and I might make another level of the same gendre, but right now I'm working on something else. Discosmurf thanks for cheerin' me up, and reiko57 , I'll look into it. What you described sounds weird to me, I've never seen it happen, but I'll try to fix it, and I'll add you on my friend list shortly. Thanks ya all! I'm gonna queue your levels now 2011-02-23 21:56:00

No is better in that way

I'm going to publish a level where you use a sackbot with sword, and i'm used exactly the button configuration of Potunator, square left slashes, circle right slashes

You can do what you say with splitter and a AND GATE,but it look weird and less precise

Wow! I love the art style to the level. The slash effects are very clean and the animation is flawless.

The only downside I see it its a bit repetitive, perhaps zoom the camera out if possible and add a few more platforms for the enemies to come from. that would help give a need to use the double jump.

I Would love to see an expansion on this concept!

If you would be so kind please F4F my level -- Crystal Sky Chronicles (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=50206-Crystal-Sky-Chronicles&p=781514)

Holy cow, time when into this level design. This level is well conceived, then properly designed right down to the blade swipe. The controls are fluent with no glitching, love the otaku silloette flair to the whole scene. I wish there was a larger playarea (I really wish this was more of a platformer) and I wish the music was a bit more dynamic during actual gameplay (but these are just wishes). In any case this one really tickled my fancy so I am liking it, hearting it, and facebooking it. Kudos (^^)v2011-02-24 08:02:00

Stylistically very cool! The game play was good as well. I like the combos, they worked well for me. Also the first two waves being warm-up was good. It gives new players a chance to get to know the game. It did seem like I should have been hitting more often then what was recorded in wave 3. Do the opponents at that point have more health then in the first two waves?

Overall, a quality level with high marks for style.

Ok just loaded ur level up lets give it a play.
First thoughts: Nice Opening scene, really cool that you put a "menu" and included instrucitons.
-Visually this is impressive.
-oh snap my lil sackbot is bad to the bone
-sound effects are nice.
-also i like u added wave 1 wave 2 etc...
-wow this is so cool...just came to mind lol
-oh wow the color change of the background is really nice add too.
-clouds moving at the top add some depth to it, another great choice.
-ok that boss i think he beat me lol not sure though i mighta beat him.
i couldnt tell with that, and im not sure what to add or tweak to tell the difference.

I have nothing really bad to say or not much to add sorry...you made an awesome level...i doubt anyone will argue with that.
was very very fun...will heart and play again.

maybe u could make a platformer with the same concept as this.

I tried to recreate the glich, but it didn't happen, so what ever it is, it must be really rare.

I thought this was a brilliant game, not enough LBP samurai themed levels out there!

To start with, i liked the short, sharp intro and the themed menu, and i thought that your tutorial video was probably one of the most informative and straight to the point introductions to controls i have seen so far in LBP 2! Its surprising that very few people bother to make their 'how to play' sections so visual, so kudos to you!

The background of the level was very nice too, and i liked the blowing leaves and the clouds, they are very simple but add a lot of atmosphere to the game. The same for the colour change in the lighting.

The controls worked well, and the game play was relativity fluid too - i had no trouble getting to grips with everything.

Here are my suggestions/criticisms:

You need to make some kind of barrier for the player at the edge of the screen on either side, because several times i got pushed off the screen by the enemies and i couldnt see what i was doing.

Sometimes i found that my swords wouldnt kill the enemies if i was standing very close to them, which made it hard to survive once a lot of them started to come.

It would be nice to see a variety of enemies, or even some boss types, like much larger ones with big hammers or something and worth more points. Or archers as well that stand back and shoot at you. I noticed that as i progressed through the waves, they got faster and a bit harder, which is good, but it would still be nice to see stereotypical classes of enemy.

This leads on to an idea i thought would help the running off the screen. Zoom the camera out a bit maybe? This way you could accommodate more enemy types, and it would be easier to move around freely. I also think it would be really cool if there was some kind of platforms or guard towers or small houses that you can jump on top of, which makes another element for the game play - where only the archers could get you.

Also you could introduce some kind of bonus item(s) that are either dropped by enemies or appear (maybe baskets of flowers falling from the sky?) that give you more points or a certain amount of health?

And finally i think you need to have some kind of indicator for the amount of health you have, because i didnt have any idea of how low i was etc.

I can certainly see this turning into an incredibly fun and addictive mini-survival game if you implement some more variety!

Great job.

Id really appreciate it if you could check out my mini-game and leave me some feedback in the thread (link in my sig)!

Thanks alot for the great feedback! I will definetly F4F you! I owe you big time!

To everyone reading: I have now decided to update the level! It's gonna be big! HUGE! I'm going to make the level so that you can select a story mode, or a survival with two options, waves mode or endless mode. The waves mode will have more waves, and more enemies and bosses! Also i'm thinking of a health refill after each boss! Now how's that sound? =D

I agree with pretty much everything that was said above. Fantastic visual style, great animation, nice sound effects, cool intro/titles/tutorial, etc. I will definitely be back to play if this is expanded into a whole action/platforming level.

If I had to nit pick, I'd say that a couple of times my sword seemed to go right through an enemy's head without damage. But I had an issue with this on my level, too, where I have you shooting electricity at an oversized sackbot. It's like the top 2/3s of the head has no collision detection. You probably have more advanced tech in there, so maybe you can tweak the collision detection just a bit. It might be related to when you are standing on the little hill.

Oh, and in the description it should be "trusty" not "trysty". I always seem to notice these things.

Great job, though!

EDIT: So I played a couple more times and ran into the same issue as Reiko. I could hear sword swiping sound effects and random -10s were racking up way on the left side of the screen. About the time any electricity I fired to the right would go off the right side of the screen and the "wrap" around and come from the left across the screen again. So I was firing off electricity like mad to try and kill whatever was "hurting" me, and then I died. But then it was like the electricity was still traveling, hit some enemies and then I got resurrected and got to play a little more! This was after already appearing on the scoreboard for like half a second. Sadly, I still couldn't get to the boss, even with 2 lives

This is super awesome. I love all the little details. The leaves and the shape of the sword swipes. I only had one issue. I was not sure why the game ended where it did. Did I get hit to many times? Did I reach the last wave? You need to tell the player why it is over.
