Sackbots and level links

Hey guys, hope all is well. Just a quick question, do any of you know if it is possible to have a sackbot follow a playing charactor through a level link. I ask this because if it is possible then i (well we) can use the sackbots curcit board to activate switch triggers in the first level that will then have an effect in the second level after the link is activated. Maybe i didn't explain my self propperly but that's not a solution, but thanks for offering some advice Say i want to create a side-scrolling shooter with the option to upgrade both the power and range of the ships weapon's using points that the player has collected through out the level. This is were a problem arises, any upgrades that the player chooses to do will not be there when they respawn on level 2. I could simply place the upgrade menu at the start of level 2 but any upgrades made won't be there for level 3. Now if a sackbot can go with the player through a level link then all the logic needed for the upgrade system can be placed on the sackbot's curcit board and thus upgrades made in level 1 will be there at the start of level 2 using activated curcit boards with key triggers on them. I know that there is no other forseeable why to cary logic from one level to another. I have a feeling that this can not be done which is a shame and i'm about ready to abandon the idea but if anybody knows of a way to make this possible then i would love to hear from you. the only way i can think of is when u get an upgrade for something, you also get a sticker that goes along with it so when u start level 2 then u get some time to put the stickers on the sticker switches but then again if u replay level 1 over and over again to get all the stickers for upgrades then...yeah.... | 2011-02-20 22:44:00 Author: sonofbrave Posts: 107 |
I'm using a system to give the player experience as they do things, and this experience is converted into a certain rank. At the end of the level. The player earns a sticker based on their rank, and this unlocks the number of skill points that they attained through leveling up. When they start again, they just use the sticker to give them back their rank, allowing them to use the skill points to unlock things that they had last time. This is in a addition to several other stickers which unlock other aspects of the game that the player may wish to retain (cash, areas, vehicles, etc).
