Hey all!

I made a remake of arkanoid with upgrades, menu etc.
Let me know what you think of it, and while you're at it try beating my high score

This is a REALLY good rendition! Only one thing I didn;t like (and this may just be me) was the blue laser on the right hand side, found it a bit distracting. Some good power-ups, tho the blackout one is a bit nasty!

Nicely done, very aestheticly pleasing

I've tried to remove it, but it feels like the level is a bit empty without it.
I'll remove it if more people feel the same way about it.

Thanks alot for you're comment

You're not really allowed to bump levels for no reason here. My suggestion is that you turn your thread into a F4F (feedback-for-feedback) thread, give someone else feedback and ask them to give you some.2011-02-27 11:34:00

I played a lot of Arkanoid back in the day until I was able to beat it. I'll sometimes still play the fantastic IIgs versions of Arkanoid I and II.

Your level is pretty good and had some unique powerups but I had some issues. For starters, the paddle...it moves too slow. There also seems to be something wrong with hitting the ball on the ends of the paddle...it makes the ball move at warp speed. There are lots of weird velocity changes to the ball, in Arkanoid the ball would slowly speed up as you play and hit certain blocks. In this remake, sometimes the ball would get on top of the blocks and move so slowly (and not because of lag) that I nearly fell asleep waiting for it to bounce out...other times it hits something and just takes off. I'm not sure if this was related to powerups...but if so then the speed reset powerup makes the ball too slow. I didn't really feel like I had any fine control over either the ball or paddle...it just didn't feel like Arkanoid.

All the powerups appeared to be green or yellow to me...but things that appeared to be the same color did different things. Bad powerups like the blackout one or the one that obscures your view with paper airplanes should be clearly marked so they can be avoided...otherwise it's just cheap. I liked the changes to the play area like the walls that would appear...but you need to make sure to clear these if the ball is lost. Once the wall appeared after I just lost the ball so I had to wait around for the wall to disappear before I could continue.

I lost all my lives with one block left so I don't know if you have other screens...but one thing about Arkanoid was the unique arrangement of the blocks...you've chosen the boring break-out wall...and while I do think your "steel" color scheme was an interesting choice, it was also kind of dull having all the blocks look the same. The pace was also very slow...it took a long time to clear out all the blocks. One powerup from Arkanoid II that I think would really help is the twin paddle lasers. The "catch" paddle would also be cool to add...not sure if you have this already or not...there was a weird orange plasma ball that seems to be stuck to my paddle but I dropped it before I figured out what the heck it was.

Sound seemed to be lacking. Does the ball even make a sound when it hits the blocks other than the score giver noise? The score also shouldn't appear over the blocks.

So while this is a decent level, it in no way improves on the 25 year old original. I'm not sure it even counts as being impressive for LBP2 given the addition of impact sensors and controllinators. Hopefully you can take this as constructive criticism from someone that loved the original Arkanoid, I do think with some tweaks this is a level some folks will have fun with.
