technical info:

created in LBP 2
level name: beachstorm
type: race - top down - 2 player versus possible - 1 player solo practice possible (no ghost car yet)
psn nick: freddykrugerfred
best lbp1 levels: dead ocean, boogeyman, a sackmare on elmstreet 2010, flight simulator

Hello everybody!

I am very proud to finally be able to showcase my very first lbp2 level. It is a top down racer set in a sunny beach side environment with some cool scenery and multiple paths for the player (s) to enjoy.

I would like some feedback on the single player part and the multiplayer part. Please do note the multiplayer part is still in beta testing fase so I only put in the option to race with 2 players at this time. More will be added if the level is appreciated by the community.

the level start is not very visually appealing but please ignore this, it is merely a way of giving the player an option to play solo or mutiplayer with 2 sackpersons because i do not have the knowledge to create an ingame menu at this time.

Features:
*3 lap race
*speed boost power up somehwere in the level
*each lap is different !
*surprise set piece after second lap

Now you will be asking, what makes this any different than other top down racers?
Well, I tried to make a pretty detailed top down world and most importantly I made each lap give you something different! No three laps are the same, as you will be racing during daytime in lap 1, nighttime in lap 2 and there is set piece twist to change the lap in lap 3.

During night time i made the whole look of the level change as well

Hope you guys / girls like it, looking forward to some feedback for SOLO and MULTIPLAYER please

best regards

I'll have a go (queued!)

If you want any help with the menu just give me a shout when I'm online, I've just undertaken this task (with options for co-op or versus) and thought it was going to be difficult....It wasn't!

EDIT: Link your thread with LBP.me for easier navigation for the community, it might help you getting plays.

The URL in the bottom left hand corner of your LBP.me page is your own personal link to your level. In future, when you post a 'New Level' thread, all you need to do is fill out the form with your LBP.me level URL (last 5 digits I think) and follow the rest of the instructions, it will do the rest for you (make sure your LBP settings are correct so everyone can see your profile/level, I think the settings are automatically set to hide) You could also edit your sig with a link to your level, just copy your LBP.me URL, press 'Add link', paste in the box and you're good to go!

Now then....your level!

Played this yesterday and thought it showed signs of promise, it also showed a creator in the early stages of his budding creator career! A few things need to be addressed to make this more enjoyable, firstly, the car...it gets stuck to the walls...A LOT....Now I'm not sure what effect this would have, but the first thing I'd imagine you could do to stop this is add a 'Material Tweaker' to your car and play about with the friction/bounciness settings, this should help alleviate the problem.

Also, while I enjoyed the transistion in your level from open road, to a foresty bit; there still wasn't enough clear direction, and, perhaps it could do with being a little longer. Plus, have a look at your starting grid. I kept getting the feeling I was driving into a car park!

One last thing, your track could do with a quick once over with the corner editor. this is your friend, it helps bring out that extra little bit of polish and is so easy to use. I'd advise anyone to get handy with this magic little tool ASAP.....it makes the difference!

I hope you don't take my comments too hard, it isn't meant to be a scathing critique, just a few helpful hints to set you on the way. You've got some promise and I hope to see what you come up with in the future!

I played it solo, and it's not bad for a first level, it only needs some minor fixes; these are my suggestions:
- like FourteenInchGaz, I had a lot of trouble every time I hit a wall: the car gets stuck very easily as it is now;
- I don't think using one of the premade backgrounds for a level like this could be a good idea, to the point that I would have preferred seeing some basic grass over the PotC's background;
- the scoring system can be easily cheated by going back and forth on the places it gives you points (same for the starting grid, you can switch between O and X and finish the stage in less than 10 seconds)

The visuals are pretty good and you put some nice ideas in it - fix the car with an object tweaker and it will also be fun

thanks a lot for the advice !

i will add a material tweaker and check the issues you have.

as for the corner editor, I did use it already a lot but it's hard to fix every corner and line

will check the background as well, and as for the starting grid, that actually is a parking of a big company. I will put the cars more in front of the race line.

1 thing remains unadresses, did you like the way the track changes in the last lap and the day - night switch?

will play your levels as well !

ok hi you!
nice first try for a lbp2 level, i hope i don't sound rude but let me say the following:
try to browse throught some mm picks and look what others have build, just to see what is possible.

than look at your level and image what you choudl change so it fits against the other people levels.

if you want i give you some hints:
- if you start the game highlight the start, so the people know in wich way to drive. i was confused and only saw where to go when i started pressing buttons.
- if you build your level on the lower end of the level background it looks like some old cheap lbp 1 levels. try to build it iin the middle of the level so you can build around your level background! that gives it a real feeling. it d estroyes the top down view feelinig if you see the other ground of the background. and mybe try to add some new materials as water, there are some good ones! do add effects
- you get stuck if you touch the walls, that is a fun killer. try to avoid this!

i hope i was able to help you
and belive me i mean it good with you! keep up creating! *hugs*

thanks ! Yes the advice is really useful, i will add the material tweaker so cars don't" get easily stuck, will highlight the start and direction to drive and will rework the background.

that should solve this issues
