speed boost in top down racer + lap count

Archive: 4 posts

Hi everyone!

I have finally started building my first lbp2 level and decided i wanted a top down racer
The theme is very original but I will reveal the level later on the showcase section.

For now, I need help on how to create a speed boost in my top down racer level. I need it so that when players drive over it the car gets a boost for a few meters or seconds (i prefer meters).

I used two movers to control the car (no advanced mover or joystick sensor).

Can someone please help me on how to create this?
My level is already shaping up nicely but it really needs a booster or two to up the enjoyment factor a bit.

My second quesion would be the following:

How can I limit the number of laps to three ? For now I work with a counter (to 10 laps) , but i want to limit this to 5. I have tried linking up player sensors a bit after the starting line in the hope it would also deduct from the counter's total of 10 (so i have 5 laps for each player) but this does not work at the moment.

Thanks in advance

For the boost, since it will just be a short burst, could be done with a rocket. Try putting a tag on the track, a tag sensor on the car that activates the rocket while in the tag area, or have the tag activate a start count down timer hooked to the rocket for a timed burst2011-02-19 14:08:00

For the boost logic, it isn't too difficult to set up something with a timer + rocket/mover, but your best bet is to look at the roborat Mm give you and basically 'steal' the speed boost logic. I pretty much copied the entire inner working of the roborat for the top-don racer I'm working on. ;P

The lap counter logic has had me pretty confuzzled for a while now, but I've finally worked out a semi-solid lap counter. You say you want to limit the laps to 3 - why can't you just choose '3' on the counter? My guess is you didn't realise you could change the number with the analogue stick for smaller intervals rather than with the d-pad, haha. I've set up a standard lap counter logic if you need help getting it to run, it's not too complicated but the use of tags and tag sensors is, believe it or not, the most unreliable aspect. (even giving the tag sensors a very wide detection radius, they still don't always record it.)

you are totally right !! oh my gosh, i never realized that the left stick could work lowering it

thank a lot!

one last problem though: how do you control the camera for 2 players ? i always seem to be using player 1 zoomed out max camera but have troubles since player 2 camera does not follow (despite beeing same movie camera linked to controllinator).

do you have a solution for the camera issue?
