Aight, aight. Got a question, and i hope it can be answered!

Is it possible to make a hole in a thing? I mean like, fx, if i make a vertical, high box, is it possible to make a hole in it, in the middle or something, so for an example, i go to the top of that box, and you can fall down the hole in the box, or something. Please try to understand it.

Erm.. Kinda. Although it wouldn't work very well.

Use the large grid.

Do a 3 across, and 3 down square.

Then, on the left hand side of that square, do a rectangle going down 3. Do the same on the right hand side.

Copy the back layer, and put it in the front layer

Only problem is, Sackboy will change layers so he wont fall lol.

I've designed several objects like this, and they do work. You just have to think about the design before you invest a lot of time creating it. Keep in mind how the game tries to keep the player from falling into holes as long as a layer exists for him to land on. The only way he'll be able to fall down the hole is if the player walks or runs into it. If the player tries jumping, he will land on your back or front layer.

Alternatively, to avoid the auto-jump-to-layer problem, try this:

Turn grid mode ON.

Create the shape of your pipe or tube, or whatever the object is that the player will fall through. For simplicity's sake, we'll just say its a tall rectangle. All right, copy this object and paste it twice to one side of your object.

Turn grid mode OFF.

Grab your original object again and copy it, but do not move your cursor, so that you're still perfectly lined up with your original object. Shrink the cursor down a bit and cut out the middle of your original object, leaving a tube with thin walls on the sides, top, and bottom.

Turn grid mode ON.

While still lined up on your newly cut hole, slide your cursor up and cut out the top and bottom areas so the player can drop through.

Now take the background wafer thin copy, line it up behind your "fat" tube, and hold L1 to make it press towards the foreground. Hold X at the same time to glue it. Now slide the foreground wafer thin copy, line it up in front of your "fat" tube, and hold L2 to make it press towards the background. Hold X at the same time to glue it, as well.

Now you have a 1-layer thick tube the player can drop down in and you won't have to worry about Sackboy automatically moving to another layer, avoiding it altogether.

Or you could make the hole going all the way through the object and then create a paper thin layer in front so it doesn't look as noticable.2008-11-20 22:41:00
