Have you ever played a level and literally asked yourself...

What the [insert profanity here]? Like, out loud?

I have seriously played some levels that left my brain in a lasting "WHAT ON EARTH WAS THAT PLEASE DESTROY IT!" state.

Anyone else encounter some of those?

Or like, levels so ugly and empty and pointless that you just wonder what the point was?

I'm not going to namedrop anyone on PSN, but seriously. There are some seriously odd-in-a-bad-way levels out there.

I have counted quite a few 'sigh' moments when it comes to levels, which mainly included hitting dive in to get the trophy and ending up in a horribly designed 'Kill Justin Bieber level' why do 10 year olds feel the need to make those?2011-02-19 05:25:00

Any unfair deaths always make me say "What the [insert profanity here]?" out loud.
Everyone knows when I'm playing a poorly designed level in my house.

lol... I've found some amusement even out of the most pointless levels. LAst night I played some level where you just jump up a rather long staircase, and then a voice-over'd magic mouth said "PREPARE FOR A FAST RIDE"... truth in advertising, grabbed onto a car that slammed full speed into a plasmafied wall..

I might sarcastically or jokingly say "oh what is this garbage lol" online with others but I don't honestly hate it. But the thing I wonder...

People are spamming my profile and levels with "PLAY MY LEVEL ____ IT AWESOMEPLZ" and you know, whatever right? Last night I went to one guy that spammed it on all of my levels and my profile at the same time - he mus tbe really proud of his work!

His planet is completely dominated by exact copies - title and all- of the Fallout bomb survival from LBP1. There's like 10 of them, each with about 1 play. His huge efforts to get attention make me wonder

There are always good levels and bad levels out there and many people have many different skills at creating, compared with the levels I've seen come from this forum it would definitely put my levels to shame even though I spend many hours working on my levels and trying my hardest to make a decent level but I have seen far worse levels than mine. I won't even start a thread on any of my levels on this forum I'd probably end up with everyone giving it a boo, because I'm no tech expert I use mainly the standard tech available on LBP, which now luckily includes, timers, counters, randomisers, sequencers, sackbots and so forth. All my tech is basic.
The only real time I get annoyed with levels is like on LBP1 where I would literally enter a level and land straight on the scoreboard. What's the point in that? Pathetic there isn't even any gameplay, no effort no nothing and it's the same with H4H levels. Sure I have seen a few good levels that have H4H in the title but I tend to not really like them because H4H puts me off anyway regardless of whether it's been nicely done or just plain simple and empty.
I think people asking for H4H are just looking for fame and attention and I really disprove of that kind of behaviour, hearts should be earned not begged for.
Bomb survivals also annoy me, there's so many of them they seem rather pointless and sure maybe it would have been fun to start with, with the odd levels but there has become so many on LBP1 they got very pointless.
I've already seen a few of these finding their way onto LBP2

I don't even mean levels that are poorly designed, I mean ones that are frighteningly ridiculous, or just contain a bunch of blocks of one material on the ground, and ones that make you feel your IQ drop in.

Also, when I see H4H or P4P on my levels, I just downrate and delete it. You need more than just an acronym to get me interested in your level.

I had this experience just recently with a level called STEP 8: FREEDOM! by Raduban. You start on a motorbike, then you get chased by cars and helicopters, then there's a volcano and missiles and sea monsters everywhere then at the end you land on a podium and the entire level proceeds to blow up with hundreds of bombs. This all takes place in less than 30 seconds. It was amazing... wait... WHAT JUST HAPPENED2011-02-19 21:47:00

I was starting to swear under my breath A LOT during the final was in the Hansel & Gretelbot series, It was getting so made because those freaking cookies kept frying me with one hit, and the dragons health bar would go up, and Id get it down but have to push Gretelbot, then go up and get fried and... URGH but I had to beat it to complete the series. Totally worth it. LBP really doesnt make me swear under my breath. Just dont get me on the subject of Call of Duty...2011-02-20 01:49:00

Also you have to remember that there are a lot of kids out there that don't fully understand or get all the mechanics and logic to use properly in their levels. So they will try things out and mash them all together. I'm not a kid but I still don't get everything hence why I haven't released a level yet. When I usually play a really bad level I try to give feedback and suggestions in my review. I've even got a message back to say that they've taken it on board and invite me back to try it out. Usually bad spelling, abbreviations and punctuation are tell tale signs that possibly a very young child made that level. I even encourage them to get test them out on others as this will show up the flaws in their level.

As for Hansel and Gretalbot I've been having problems loading a few of them and got a bit lost in one of them. However, it's still an amazing effort from the community.

I'm only 12 and I have made levels that made a lot of people say woah!, or awesome level man! They usually get a bunch of hearts too.*cough* your logic is flawed!!!!! *cough* I still get where you come from, a lot of my friends say lets make a level for no apparent reason, I go in create mode they put stuff together and say done. They actually called it a level! It was a bunch of story mode enemies, a couple of blocks dropped here and there then a scoreboard. I usually don't say anything to avoid a fight, but all I can do is usually stare and say, "WHAAAAT! ARE YOU JOKING ME!" But only in my mind, it's makes me wonder what the future of LBP 2 could be.

Yeah, I honestly don't think age has much to do with it. It's likely more maturity, intelligence, patience, and creativity rolled into one little package that makes a level great... the latter two are probably the most important.

I was making pretty sweet web pages with CSS and HTML in text editing programs at 12 that were surprisingly well organized, so I definitely don't think age is overly important.

This is all too true. What Ive noticed, many of the top-notch creators you see in these games are adults, or at least in their late teens. Age does help, in a way; a more developed brain, more maturity, more patience, all these help out. But you dont HAVE to be an adult to create great things, AT ALL. That second sentence right their sums it up.

I saw one last night that was called: 'If you think xbox sucks and playstation rules heart my levels'
Don't get me wrong i agree with the first part of that statement but it's still shameless pandering at its best! sad thing is it worked, they had loads of plays and hearts.

I ask myself that whenever I see a "World's Hardest/Best Platformer" level that isn't the hardest or best platformer I've ever played.2011-02-24 17:51:00

I don't even have to play a level to get that feeling sometimes.

Last night I published my first LBP2 level, one that I spent nearly 90 hours working on and am proud of. I went to "Newest Levels" to check it out and see how the icon looked when it was in the list. By the time I got there, it had already been bumped onto page 2 and I swear about 30% of the levels on page 1 had no icon, no name, grievous spelling errors in the name, etc. Why do these people even bother to publish? Did they sit on the controller and somehow accidentally navigate through all the steps of publishing?

Trophies are probably partly to blame. It's not as bad as LBP1, but I'm sure people publish blank Vs or linked levels just to get those trophies. It always annoyed me in LBP1 how I'd see creative, well-crafted levels with like 50 plays and some crappy "7 TROPHIES IN 30 SEC!!!" level with 100,000.

All of the "PLZ PLY MY LVL ITS AWESOME LOL OMG!!!!11!!!" comments on all of the popular levels really tick me off, too. It'd be one thing if it was related, like "If you liked this Sonic level, try mine too" or something, but it almost never is. I throw random downvotes on them whenever I can, but it's a losing battle. I know some creators delete them, but then you end up with pages and pages of deleted comments.

I delete 100% of these. I would rather see a delete message than this crud. The review and comments section is about the level you played not a billboard for yours.

Yeah I spent many hours working on a movie based level, it's really humourous and probably not the best out there but I've worked hard on making full use of the sequencers and sackbots they're all fun to play with. When I've republished my levels and go to the newest levels I never see it on there
I check through the first couple of pages and it's like loads of levels without icons, pictures often level spammed because the publisher has republished them about 6 times to get attention, it really is annoying
I partly blame the trophies and pins too, I think a lot of people make this stupid levels for just the tropies and pins
Like with the xbox one, if you think xbox sucks and PS3 rules heart the level
It's just someone after a trophy/pin without having to do any hard work to earn that trophy or pin
So many good levels get overlooked because of this and yeah I don't very often advertise my levels on other people's comments pages but if on the chance I happen to play a level that's similiar to mine that people may also like then after I've put a few nice words about the person's level I will sometimes put "You may also like blah blah" too but not very often I rarely come across levels similiar to mine

Glad to know I'm not the only one the comments thing bothers. I guess it's the spam email mentality. I don't know why people think it will work, but they do it anyway. It's especially annoying because no one is selling anything here - it's supposed to be a fun community. It's not like anyone's going to make money off LBP levels.

On a happier note, lbp.me is back up!
