Reducing Lag.

Archive: 11 posts

As im sure everyone who plays and/or creates on lbp psp knows, lag is a pretty big problem in user created levels. So i thought i would start a thread that can help new and experienced lbp pspers alike to reduce lag on their levels. I'm working on a level right now and its lagging like crazy so i thought doing this would help me out as well. So yeah. I would appreciate if you guys could please post any methods on how to eliminate lag so we can keep all of our levels as slowdown free as possible. Thanks.

Ill edit all methods into this post.

Reduce the amount of stuff happening at once.
(bolts, pistons, winches, etc.)
This can be reduced by using sensor switches.

Reduce amount of fog as well.

Lethalized material made into gas. This includes the gas glitch where you material change the gas.

Also if you need to squeeze in that one last object or add in a couple more switches and it simply won't let you because of lack of thermo space, simply material change everything to one material. (Just do cardboard or a material you haven't used yet to make things simple.) Now I shouldn't say everything, just change some of the main areas where you can remember what material they were before hand so there's no need to change all of the small little details since you'll see the thermo go down after changing a few large objects/areas of your level. You can always change your materials when the thermo is full, thus making this trick useful. (Credit goes to Alismuffin or AFP? I don't remember but credit where credit is due!) This trick has helped me squeeze in some last minute items and even change my mind on what materials to use.

NOTE: Be sure not to change dissolve material if it is set to be switched off since it may have minor unforseen effects such as removing the switch attached to it.

Cheers Woodbury. I've had a few level crashes when dealing with gas changing, been ok with the lag issue (at the moment). Cheers all for the advice.2011-02-24 20:33:00

List of things that will redice the lag of your game

The amount of score bubbles appearing on the screen
The amount of horrible gas seen in the levels
dynamic bolt movement throughout levels
Winches, Pistons, Switches
amount of emitted items
