Radiohead: King Of Limbs.

Archive: 11 posts

I've just purchased Radioheads new album and am currently in the middle of it. First impressions: Well haven't exactly formulated them. I usually need to listen to an album a good couple of times before I get an opinion on it. So what do you lot think of it? And what about Radiohead as a whole? Are they overly hyped? The release of the new album did spark quite a number of headlines from various newspapers (Websites). Or whatever else? Any personall favourite tracks? When I do get back to LBP2 I'll probably try to recreate some of the songs into my level because I feel that it could really fit the style I'm going for.2011-02-18 18:59:00

On my 5th listen now. It's so not what I expected, but I'm really enjoying it. Dissapointed at the lack of Present Tense (a song Thom played live solo which is a Radiohead song), but otherwise interesting album. I'm sure it will grow on me too. I've ordered the Newspaper edition 2011-02-18 19:43:00

First impressions (well, actually after about 5 or 6 listens): meh. The songs are good, it just seems to be lacking something special.2011-02-18 22:28:00

Sounds not bad, although i'm pretty sure this will never be my favourite radiohead album. Good songs all around and they get better everytime you listen, but i'm missing something too, sounds a bit... "safe". (I liked in rainbows a lot more, but that was a different producer aswell...)
In general i like Radiohead and Thom Yorke a lot, I think we need a lot more people like them in the music industry!

Radiohead have had the same producer since OK Computer - Nigel Godrich. He is essentially the 6th member of radiohead
Anyways, this album has grown on me quite a lot already, but it will be a while till it's Kid A status lol. That album took me a long time to get, and now it's one of my fave's.

Codex is beautiful... just sayin'

I know, but In Rainbows wasn't produced by Nigel, that was Mark Stent.

Hmm it still seems like Nigel produced it, he's the only name credited in the right section, and Stent isn't mentioned in the Personnel section. They did a bit with Stent but by the sounds of it not much was recorded as it didn't go well. Actually quite interested in this, wasn't aware at first they went with someone else.

The delay was attributed to difficulty regaining momentum after their break,[3] and the lack of both a deadline and producer to push things forward.[4] In the February 2006 sessions, they chose to work with producer Mark Stent instead of their longtime co-producer Nigel Godrich.[5] Bassist Colin Greenwood, commenting on their decision, said "Nigel and the band know each other so well now, it's all got a little too safe."[4] Although the band had written several new songs by this point, little came of the recording sessions with Stent, which ended in April 2006.

I downloaded it the hour it was released and haven't stopped listening to it since. Codex is definitely my favourite so far, then Lotus Flower. ARRRGGGG it's so amazing.2011-02-19 17:32:00

The only thing i could find about that is this

"In 2005, Radiohead members confirmed that they were going to record sessions for their new album with Stent. As of August 2006, the band had apparently finished their sessions for In Rainbows with Stent and began work again with their longtime producer Nigel Godrich. The liner notes of the album show Stent is not credited as a producer, but is one of the people the band thanked." http://wn.com/Mark_Stent

They must have had a reason to no credit him as a producer, but "thank" him. Actually i'm quite interested in this too, I love In Rainbows <3

On a side note, anyone knows if Radiohead is gonna go on tour with this, would love to see that!

I'm guessing Nigel and the band went back over the tracks from Stent's sessions, hence being thanked and not directly credited. Agreed nevertheless though, IR is awesome
With this new album I'm kind of hoping for a Kid A/Amnesiac where another 8 tracks or so will pop up at the end of the year. Not a lot of songs after 4 years in TKOL! Though I'm not complaining, the album is great.

This album's ok, not bad but really unimpressive & short, I wish they were as prolific as they used to be, they used to release loads of b-sides which were often better than album tracks & now we just get 8 songs that sound like they were cut from The Eraser.2011-02-20 16:04:00
