Finally... A turtle platformer

Archive: 17 posts

If you like turtles this level is for you. Jump, swim, and squash your way through fireballs, electric eels and tribesmen posessed by an evil energy from a volcano. There are prizes for completing and acing the level including an easy jump logic chip and sackbot enemies. The level is lacking in the decorations department for right now but i will soon be dressing it up and would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you may have. Thank you!!!

Hehe the turtle and its controls are very funny. There is defentaly some potential here. Though i found the level abit barren and way to short. Ill check it out again later when its more dressed up and extended!!

Please check out my level "Raiders of the Last Couric"

I like turtles.
That was pretty fun.
A bit rough around the edges, but still fun.
Give the level some decoration, and it would be awesome if you could put a health bar on mr turtle.

So simple yet so awesome for some reason. Some potential here.
Bonus points for non-infinite checkpoints!

I just played this with a friend and it's really fun and goofy, although there are some camera issues here and there. Great job!2011-02-18 16:55:00

I played it earlier but I'm not sure which version I got as I don't remember if it was before or after dawn (long day). I enjoyed "driving" the turtle and had fun crushing the fire throwers

The single layer hills were a bit bland maybe adding some stuff to the two flat layers around that would help give it depth and a bit of flare. The game play was good, I didn't see anything that was just impossible and at the same time I did die a few times by being overzealous and a good level should do that, imo. Overall it's a touch rough around the edges (appearance mostly) but the core is funny and fun. On top of that...I too...like turtles

With the cameras they are all just game cameras set to not require all players, maybe changing that could solve the camera issues. Still want to dress it up more, and also thinking of putting a level link to continue the story inside the volcano.

Thanks again everyone!

Now over 50 unique plays!! Haha, its now my most played level! Yay!!! Time to pop the champagne!!!

Health hearts added for individual turtles, so now you will know how many more fireballs/electric eels you can take.

It's a cool level. It has a lot of similarities to the full metal rabbit story level so it might be better to find some more ways of further differentiating turtles from the robo-rabbits. Maybe it could create a force field around its shell or shoot out eggs by burning up points?

The camera issues I noticed happened near the end when going to the left and uphill. It's not very player friendly to have the camera put the turtle in the upper left corner of the screen when the direction of travel is up and to the left.

Another thing I noticed when I was in a multiplayer game is that there is one spawn point (maybe more than one) where more turtles are generated than necessary. The extra turtles in one case ended up sliding into a fire pit and the next time I respawned, I ended up in a turtle underneath two other non-occupied turtles and it that was at the bottom of a fire pit.

Right now the sound the turtle makes when it crawls sounds like stone sliding on stone. It's a minor thing, but it might be better to material tweak away the default sound and replace it with something more animal like.

Thanks for the feedback waylind I put out another level and kind of put this on the back burner for a while. I have been thinking of a new level for the turtle and some special abilities for him would really flesh out the gameplay. I like your idea of spending points for shots, the cameras I will definitely work on for now thank you for pointing out where the problem was occurring with the camera. The spawn logic was copied for each point so the problem must lie within the emitters putting the turtles out too fast for the spawn point. The spawn logic puts the turtle up in the air so that the player entering the turtle will fall out of the way for the next one to have room to emit. The emitter that puts out the turtle is hooked up to a player sensor that only covers the checkpoint area. Sorry for waiting a week to reply, this thread kind of got buried and I kind of went on with my next project. I definitely will give the timing and emitters another look, my turtle deserves it.2011-03-31 01:09:00

Republished this morning, fixed some of the camera zones so you won't have to jump without knowing where your going to land. Let me know if there is any issues playing with more than 2.

Also fixed 'empty' turtle glitch. Added material tweaker to eliminate sliding glass sounds on turtle.

Thanks for playing.
