How to Make a Sackboy Breathe Infinitely Under Water.

Archive: 20 posts

This is very simple, and would be more useful if sackbots could go under water, but...

Step 1: Place a square of holographic material with the brightness tweaked to zero.

Step 2: Place a microchip on the piece of holographic material, make sure it's not visible play mode.

Step 3: Place a follower on the microchip's circuit board, and a bubble machine (yes, you can do that )

Step 4: Place (nah, just kidding) Tweak the follower to go at the highest speed possible, with acceleration at 100. Make sure the awareness radius is at least as big as the your body of water.

Step 5: Finally, place a player sensor that has an awareness radius of the size of your pool of water. Wire the output up to the follower.

This was very handy for my Percy Jackson levels, please DON'T play them, they're terrible, I'm going to go back and make new ones.

cute.. I may end up using it... I guess you have bubbles floating up from yourself mind you.. which is okay.

I have a character (from a book i wrote that I'm fiddling with making a set of levels about) and she doesn't need to breathe at all... I'm thinking of having her outfit 'forced' on the player with a bot... BUT... hmm. I was going to say that I could have the player wearing scuba gear which wouldn't be seen inside the controlinator.. but there's 2 problems with that. 1) I don't know if the scuba gear and a controlinator will work together, and 2) BOTS AND WATER = NO!!! ... duh.

Wow, that's pretty nice. I never realised you could put Bubble Machines on microchips.

Although, now I think about it, I guess it makes sense. They are basically emitters, and you can place the other 3 kinds of emitters on microchips.

... or you could just use the scuba gear power up, although that may be exclusive to the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' DLC, i don't know.2011-02-18 04:13:00

The point is to make sackboy breath without the ugly scuba gear (it doesn't fit with most themes)

Very clever idea, i was just wondering how to do that.

It would definitely be a kind of interesting way to create an anti-gravity situation while forcing swim animations... for someone who needed such a thing. Or if you were doing an Aquaman level or something. Definitely some usefulness there. 2011-02-18 18:01:00

ozero, you should check out my level: http://lbp.me/v/x3ycn5 it might solve your problem, remember to credit me if it does!2011-02-21 20:43:00

queue'd..! I might not end up doing the 'bot as a player' thing after all, but it might come in handy for other things. I have some pirate enemies on the horizon, and it might be nice if a pirate knew how to swim. Odd, huh? 2011-02-23 03:52:00

ozero, you say its for a level series, so itsnot like you have to stick by some rules like say........ your sackbots have to swim on their own. if they are using a controlinator then they dont die in water. i discovered this when i was making a film about a guy in a wheel chair being pushed of a cliff because he was so anoying. the guy had a controlinator so he would sit round but he did not die when he landed in water so it was a failed film but it might help your cause 2011-02-26 09:53:00

Nice little tutorial. Thanks. Perhaps Mm should introduce breathable water as a global setting.2011-02-26 12:32:00

Could the Sackbot dive underwater then above water, then under again?

You don't need the player sensor. The follower is a player sensor hooked up to a mover, basically.2011-06-13 23:10:00

Neat, definitely useful for when you don't want to use scuba gear. Doesn't make much since if your level is in the Prehistoric or Medieval times and you are using scuba gear.

You could even use this to make it like Link when he is using the Zora armor/tunic. (It allows him to breathe underwater)

So how does this work for multiplayer? A follower will just follow whoever is closest. Unless Mm adds a tweak to followers so that we can set them to follow specific players (player 1, player 2, etc), then things like this are useless for multiplayer. Normally I would get around this by setting the follower to follow a tag and using a sackbot with the matching tag... but that doesn't work for water 2011-06-16 14:35:00

So how does this work for multiplayer?

If you'd put each bubble generator to circular holo and made logic that makes them repel each other it would work. The player needs 30 seconds to drown and that is enough for follower to catch the player.

That isn't so neat and tidy but it should work.
