Hiding the start gate.

I am incredibly close to uploading my first level but I'm struggling with the opening sequence. My level has a board with a fixed camera throughout, I want the level to load in darkness and have the lights slowly come on to illuminate the board, but no matter what I do there is a brief flash of the player emerging from the entrance gate. I have the player immediately entering a controllinator as soon as they spawn in the level so they appear, then disappear as the camera whizzes to it's proper location and it just looks really sloppy terrible. I currently have a battery hooked up to a game camera which works after the player initially enters the level and have tried a movie camera with a battery but that stops the player from entering the level until after it cuts; causing the "jump" to happen after the movie camera instead of before. I know that this is possible, as most of the non-platforming community levels don't show the player entering the level, but I cannot figure it out for the life of me. Also, is there any way to remove the letterbox effect on movie cameras? | 2011-02-17 20:21:00 Author: Unknown User |
You just have to put the DCS and the enter-level checkpoint behind something when the level starts, so it's just hidden. No matter what, entering the DCS will always require a second for the "sackboy-jumping-in" animation, but it's only a second, so if the player is hidden even for the first second or two of the level it will still mask the DCS enter. Also, if you place the DCS on a piece of invisible holo and set the DCS visibility to off, the player will be completely invisible after entering. Might be helpful. Also, is there any way to remove the letterbox effect on movie cameras? This can only be done by placing a movie camera on a DCS or one of its embedded microchips. It happens automatically, just ignore them the first time you go to place your camera angle. | 2011-02-17 20:30:00 Author: jdteather314 Posts: 74 |
Use a sequencer for the cameras. Then attach a not gate to the input of the sequencer. When you play the level your sequencer will kick in before you spawn. Only when the sequencer's finished, will you spawn from the entrance. Simples. Not sure about the letterbox thing. But it is called a 'movie' camera, so I'd guess it's why there's a camera dedicated for movies. | 2011-02-17 20:32:00 Author: Frogmeister Posts: 236 |
