Rainbow Waves

Archive: 8 posts

Hey folks. I've finally finished my first LBP2 level. It's a minigame where you try to launch colored waves of energy at targets, and explode them when the waves intersect. Waves reflect off of the "walls," and the player must time the explosions to hit the targets. Early targets are stationary, but they quickly start moving around and become harder to hit, and towards the end, they are on timers that explode and damage your "ammo" if you don't destroy them quick enough. It's kind of a puzzle/strategy game, I guess. Anyway, it took me quite a while, so I'd love it if some people took the time to play it! Any comments/feedback are always appreciated!

Looks very nice, I'll give it a play sometime. May I ask how you took the pictures? Because I believe you can get a higher quality by pausing during the game and pressing the snapshot button. Then, press Square on the photo and click upload. Then copy the photo from lbp.me to here 2011-02-17 07:57:00

Ah yes, thanks. I couldn't remember how to do it in-game, haha. Anyway, I already had my camera out to take the video (there isn't a way to capture video in-game is there?)2011-02-17 08:07:00

I like these kinds of levels. Mostly because the amount of ambition a project like this takes is daunting.

I feel that it's the same genre as the Q? games Every Extend Extra and Gunpey. But it's not quite there yet. I don't really know what but a certain something is missing to make it truely an addicting experience. If you keep working on it I'm sure you'll find out. When you do you have a best-seller.

I really enjoyed this level . It was different than most levels. I liked the fact that there was minimal music, it felt more like an arcade game. The only thing I didn't like was that it was so short- other than that, well done. 2011-02-17 16:31:00

Thanks for your feedback, everyone. I tried to keep the music and sound very simple and straightforward, but I feel as if I could add a bit more energy to the level with more active music, sounds, and maybe visual effects. On the other hand, I kind of like the minimal aesthetic, so I dunno.

Someone commented that a two player versus version of this level could work really really well, and I think I might work towards that. Each player would have their own play area, and the goal would be to destroy targets, which spawns timebombs for the other player, which they have to quickly destroy and send back to you, etc. It could be a really fast-paced and fun game concept, so I think I'll explore it.

Has anyone played the level with 2+ players yet? I haven't tested what would happen to extra players in the level besides Player 1. I hope it works properly with more than one person!
