Dangerous Thin Layer

Archive: 4 posts

Hi,

Anybody got an idea on how I can create a thin layer object that is deadly a player? For instance, I'd like to have a thin object shot out of a wall that can kill the player. The thin object will be electrified and whatnot, but because it's thin it passes by the player and doesn't harm him. Any way to make this thin layer object deadly?

Thanks!

The easy way is to glue a thick block of holo behind it and electrify that: it'll kill the player.

As it happens, though, I've run into what I think is a bug, but it can help you in your situation. I've found that impact sensors can kind of fudge layer detection: I had thin layer lightning bolts electrifying my sackbots even though they shouldn't have actually been touching and it happened because the bots had impact sensors on them. Once I got rid of the impact sensors, the lightning stopped killing them. I'm not sure if it works the other way (sticking the impact sensor on the thin object), but it's worth trying. Let us know if it works.

Awesome - thank you very much. I'll let you know if the impact sensor trick works.2011-02-17 15:17:00

If it is against the back wall have the thick holo material set to 0% and glued against the background and then have it turn deadly when thin layer shoots out through it, I had to do that, and in play mode it looks like it is coming from behind the wall.2011-02-17 18:18:00
