What do you value more... Hearts or Likes?
Archive: 37 posts
Likes are a form of quick gratification whereas hearts mean someone "bookmarked" your level. I was just curious what you guys thought. | 2011-02-17 04:36:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
I'd have to say hearts...it's nice to think that someone's going to come back and play your level again. Of course, I'd prefer a nice aged Scotch, but no one's sent me that yet | 2011-02-17 04:39:00 Author: Chazprime Posts: 587 |
Well, the Heartlay ratio is messed up in LBP2 with existing LBP1 levels. It's not as reliable anymore. (as reading the level stats on LBP2 say stuff like: nay=3, yay=41 hearts=328, plays=80) So until I publish a brand new LBP2, I can't really say. I think I would prefer a good "yay : nay" ratio perhaps? Obviously any remotely challenging level is going to encourage rage quit votes from the kiddies. So I don't entirely trust that system either. I guess I would trust the Heartlay ratio on NEW LBP2 levels the most. If you also look at the publish date? So hearts I guess. | 2011-02-17 04:48:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
for me I Yay many, many more times then I heart. Which would make hearts harder to earn thus better? | 2011-02-17 05:31:00 Author: EinRobot Posts: 739 |
Hearts since it means level is so cool that player plan to play it again some day | 2011-02-17 05:47:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
Yay/ like. Hearts are pretty pointless in LBP now with a Queue function tbh. I still heart out of courtesy, but I mostly queue a level when I finish it, if I wanna replay it. | 2011-02-17 05:47:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |

I still heart out of courtesy, but I mostly queue a level when I finish it, if I wanna replay it.but after you play it once, it is gone from your queue. I dont like books disappearing from my shelf after I have read them once or twice. edit: not saying you are wrong. | 2011-02-17 05:51:00 Author: EinRobot Posts: 739 |
I'm pretty stingy with hearts, 'cause I only heart a level when I'm really blown away by it or want to come back and play it sometime. I 'Like' a level when it's, well, good. So I'm gonna have to say hearts. | 2011-02-17 06:05:00 Author: TheZimInvader Posts: 3149 |
Well, usually when someone heart's a level, they will have liked it too. Im going to have to go with hearts on this one. It's like saying "I really liked it!" | 2011-02-17 07:21:00 Author: Mr_T-Shirt Posts: 1477 |
Proper feedback isn't an option huh? Guess that goes without saying though. Obviously any remotely challenging level is going to encourage rage quit votes from the kiddies. So I don't entirely trust that system either. This fact saddens me, and is mainly why I'm going to go with hearts. Any passing player might yay a level if they think it's merely neato. There's a good chance the people who have a solid fun experience with your level are the ones hearting it, and in my case that's really what I want to know. Hundreds of hours of work to get a high overall polish doesn't do a lot of good in the way of likes:dislikes if the majority finds the core level frustrating or otherwise can't get into it. At any rate, the only thing I really don't value is a frown without feedback, or extremely broad feedback that leaves me clueless as to what the problem is. Even if I find a review to be extremely down to preference I'll still 'yay' it as long as it's honest (especially if thinking it over helps me improve the level), but I digress. | 2011-02-17 07:33:00 Author: Unknown User |
I find hearts more meaningful than anything, if people are actually using them properly. I'm always honored to have my levels bookmarked. P4P and H4H hearts make me rage though. I'd be way more likely to play someone's level if they said "Cool I like your level. Can you try my level?" It's like they hearted you, and almost demand a heart in return. If more people start doing that, it's going to make hearts 90% less meaningful. | 2011-02-17 07:51:00 Author: Shiro Posts: 108 |
Neither. I value good feedback more than hearts and likes. | 2011-02-17 07:57:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
I'm going to say yays, because no-one seems to heart anyomore. Having a ratio of happy to sad of 1:0.571 makes me proud, especially seeing as my LBP1 levels were hardly looked at for a while. | 2011-02-17 08:03:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
Neither. I value good feedback more than hearts and likes. Well, yes, I agree, but that can go without saying. It's pretty clear that every (non-H4H/P4P/etc) creator likes honest feedback the most, but this thread is about which of the two quick, simple options of gratification you prefer to get. | 2011-02-17 08:07:00 Author: TheZimInvader Posts: 3149 |
Hearts probably. This is because they mean more to other people, and thus mean more to me. | 2011-02-17 08:08:00 Author: standby250 Posts: 1113 |
Yays for me, I love having a good Y/B ratio, I hardly even pay attention to heart numbers. Although, theres nothing more satisfying then seeing a little white bubble above your level badge that tells you someones playing your level. | 2011-02-17 21:05:00 Author: ATMLVE Posts: 1177 |
I care about comments / reviews the most and consider them a "rating". I consider putting a negative and non-constructive comment "down rating" and whenever I say up/down rating I usually refer to comments - since comments are what people see. Plus, there's constructive feedback in those. Through reviews and comments I was able to fix errors in my level that I couldn't find before, as soon as I heard people's descriptions of the problems I was able to fix it. I typically delete particularly rude comments, but I advise everyone to be cautious with comments - they are what the world sees. Don't unintentionally make someone look bad in front of the whole world - doesn't matter if they have 0 hearts or a million - be courteous and considerate! | 2011-02-17 21:35:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
I'd have to say hearts...it's nice to think that someone's going to come back and play your level again. Of course, I'd prefer a nice aged Scotch, but no one's sent me that yet About the time you were posting this I was enjoying some 12 year Highland Park with a few co-workers Well, usually when someone heart's a level, they will have liked it too. Im going to have to go with hearts on this one. It's like saying "I really liked it!"Usually perhaps, but not always. I've hearted levels that I've rated down before, ones that I leave constructive feedback with and want to check up on later since they perhaps showed a bit of promise. I actually wish you could make personal notes on levels so if I can be reminded of why I hearted a level. Reviews can help with this, since you only get one review per level and it is always at the top of the review page. I care about comments / reviews the most and consider them a "rating". I consider putting a negative and non-constructive comment "down rating" and whenever I say up/down rating I usually refer to comments - since comments are what people see.I have to agree with this. I love comments and reviews over all. I try to leave them on the levels I play but am not always in to mood for it. 2nd choice would be Hearts I guess, since I know I have inspired someone to want to revisit my level and it also helps other people find my level, since you can browse other peoples hearted levels. | 2011-02-17 22:00:00 Author: Osprey71 Posts: 93 |
I'm not asking about comments, homeslice. But thanks for that insight. | 2011-02-17 22:01:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
I've read all the thread so far and I really have a hard time taking a decision. They are both equally important to me I suppose. | 2011-02-17 22:17:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
I'm not asking about comments, homeslice. But thanks for that insight. Well ok I'll pick one, I guess I'd care more about the likes since people are more inclined to hit "like" if they enjoyed a level, meaning it's past the "meh whatever" mark, and as long as someone enjoyed it, groovy. Plus people haven't started "like 4 like" yet... uh oh... I hope the internet didn't hear me. | 2011-02-17 22:24:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
I'm going to say yays, because no-one seems to heart anymore. Having a ratio of happy to sad of 1:0.571 makes me proud, especially seeing as my LBP1 levels were hardly looked at for a while. I heart more because i convince my friends to buy lbp2 and then they say how do i find good levels and i just say go to my heated list, i heart any level i think was worth playing or that someone one my friends with could benefit like an amazing tutorial,i don't create any levels though.I don't play lbp1 levels anymore | 2011-02-17 22:55:00 Author: supremeoverlord1 Posts: 117 |
On the main side: I rather people have warmhearted( and senseful(constructive criticism perhaps?) reviews. On the pin/trophy/achievement-loving side: LIKES for LBP2. On the LBP1 side: Bless, I need some more creator hearts. Last thing to platinum. The way I award my feedback in LBP2: Hearts are hardest to get. | 2011-02-18 01:19:00 Author: Cronos Dage Posts: 396 |
Since everyone's saying comments... I'd like to say that 'dis coOl!' comments mean nothing to me, but someone taking the time to share their thoughts even if it's not entirely positive feels great. In fact, suggestions have been great because if I see that feedback on here & comments on there match up and something in specific is mentioned alot then I'm totally convinced to go ahead and make the change. the sad & happy face icons look like they have downs. i guess the heart is cooler, 'cause people will probably show someone on their friends list later like 'oh hey i played this level earlier... hold on let me find it' - means it might have resonated with them and left a lasting impression instead of a fleeting one. | 2011-02-18 02:01:00 Author: Unknown User |
I'd probably value Hearts a lot more, since that shows not only someone liked your level, but they also loved it. Which for me I'd find a lot more satisfying to know since that tells me I've done a good level and impressed someone or whatever many things there are a Heart stands for that a Like doesn't (or at least not as much). | 2011-02-18 10:56:00 Author: Moonface Posts: 310 |
Well I have to agree with the prior poster on comments, eventhough it is not a choice. Frowns seem to be given out if your level has a glitch (my level has just has an emitter change direction twice with no fault of mine causing ti to fail at a certain point, and I was frowned, but never told why). I have been smiled even when the level is broke, and hearts are just the H4H thing, so I ignore those. But when I get a player that takes the time to post something helpgul about my level it is the best. The others mean nothing. | 2011-02-18 18:10:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
both, duh. ...Plus, there's constructive feedback in those. Through reviews and comments I was able to fix errors in my level that I couldn't find before, as soon as I heard people's descriptions of the problems I was able to fix it... I wish i had constructive feedback like you, a friend had to tell there were two level breaking bugs when I had published my level. No, comment, no review warned me about the problems. But, i did get a great suggestions that i will implement into the next level. Yep, 6000 reviews, 1 good suggestion. What a great ratio :/ | 2011-02-18 23:55:00 Author: PPp_Killer Posts: 449 |
I take back what I said earlier about liking feedback just because it's honest. It's so painful to read a useless comment from someone who failed to grasp basic concepts of gameplay, especially when they're above being a **** about it, which means I can't sincerely pass it off as "just trolling." I know I'm not* holding your hand like most creators would do, but there's no way my level is that cryptic. Caring what people think sure is fun and not a mind boggling process that discourages future publishing at all. *Well, there was that time I added a ridiculously easier "easy" mode and made the controls more suitable for beginners. | 2011-02-19 00:26:00 Author: Unknown User |
I'd have to say likes though hearts are equally something nice to get but at least if you get a smiley at least they enjoyed your level even if they don't heart it to return and play it at a later time. Since I'm not a very good creator anyway, I feel real happy when I get a smiley and at the moment I seem to be getting more smileys than boos so I'm happy though I won't speak too soon or my levels will be hit with a load of boos as punishment Sadly I have very few hearts apart from some of my not so proud of levels that have generated lots of hearts, which includes my Power Ranger Training level, hilarious but sadly it's a kinda anti Power Rangers level but I guess people find it funny. Sure seems to be one of my most hearted A shame really | 2011-02-19 01:15:00 Author: Elsa Posts: 164 |
It depends on which type of level it is I think... If it is a competitive/ points based level, then I would say that hearts would be a good indication of the amount of players wishing to return for the replay value I will normally smile a level if I like it or just leave it blank if I don't. I rarely heart a level unless I am going back for top score or something. So, I probably value Likes the most. | 2011-02-25 06:59:00 Author: Bender Posts: 75 |
I prefer likes as the first thing I look at when I'm playing a level is the like-to-dislike ratio. | 2011-02-25 09:37:00 Author: octopus_567 Posts: 116 |
Looking at other peoples levels? I don't really care. My own? Well I'd be happy with likes, but hearts are worth little bit more. | 2011-02-25 09:53:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |
i like yay and nay because its a cute thing to do but its stupid when someone just doesnt have the same taste of gameplay as you so the 'nay' it, or say you made a difficult level just because you have always done easy stuff and people nay it because they are not used to you making that sort of thing. i think its down to the wrong people playing the wrong levels. the same people who you meet on dive in and invite to create mode who then , ten mins in, save your creation that you just worked really hard on. hearts are better and i preferred star ratings. also like lots of people have said hearts are definitely worth more because thats how i always used to pick levels to play. i would check the hearts to see if other people liked it. maybe there should be an option, if you want people to give star ratings instead you can but if you want 'yay or nay' you can. BUT then that would get confusing with some yay or nay and some star ratings...... is there an answer to this difficult question! | 2011-02-25 14:33:00 Author: nerzdadestroyer Posts: 1527 |
I do like hearts more imo. Although i do not like dislike | 2011-02-25 15:47:00 Author: Dexist Posts: 570 |
I'm not really sure how the majority of lbp players use hearts. To me (and several who've posted in this thread so far), they're bookmarks for levels I'd like to play again. If that's what they are to the people who heart my levels, then they're better than likes. If it's just their way of saying "I really like this level!", well that's nice too and I certainly appreciate it, but it's not as meaningful as the bookmarking thing. Personally, I'm very stingy with hearts and I even go through my hearted levels page every now and then and clean out the ones that I'll never want to play again (what good is a bookmark system if it's so cluttered you can never find the page you want to read?), but if I think a level was well done or even if I just think they made a sincere effort to make it as good as they could, I'll give it a yay. As others have said, though, my favorite is a good review (http://lbp.me/v/xzbrgn/reviews). This is the second highest rated review I got on my level. I really like this one, spelling mistakes notwithstanding: Amazing level! The combanation of stunning visuals, palpapel atmosphere, simplistic but deep gameplay, and the overall sense of being a lightsaber wielding ba******* makes for a winning combo. Bravo! | 2011-02-25 21:59:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
A lot of comments on using the heart system as a bookmark. I'm surprised no one's yet mentioned that hearted levels and creators are visible on your profile. For me that's the most important thing. Hearted things I recommend to everyone who comes to my planet or LBP.me profile. Yayed things are for telling the people who viewed my feed that I had fun. Edit: and of course; booed things are for telling the people in my feed "yep, I played this level but I wish I hadn't and if you trust me, then pray do not give this level your attention. You don't have to share in my mistake. We don't both have to suffer the mental scarring." | 2011-02-27 13:54:00 Author: munrock2 Posts: 96 |
Well, I just like to know that people enjoyed something I made. Reviews and comments are what really matter to me, It's always nice to receive a positive comment | 2011-02-27 16:36:00 Author: Radishlord Posts: 706 |
