Placing My Health Bar In Corner of Screen
Archive: 7 posts
I created a sackbot health bar from a timer that works great. The problem is I want to put this health bar on the corner of the screen, similar to megaman. I've recieved a few suggestions, but it's still not working the way I want it to. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can place my health bar in the corner of the screen? And what do I do with the camera? I created a clear piece of holo material the size of the screen that follows the sackbot. I placed the health bar at the corner of the holo material. Two problems: 1. When I place a game camera on the holo material it works great. The health bar is in the corner and the camera angle follows me everywhere. But the health bar bounces around. It's not perfectly still. And when I change layers, the health bar also changes layers and it hides behind walls. 2. When I place a movie camera on the holo material, the health bar is exactly the way I want it. In the corner of the screen and perfectly still. The problem is, the camera won't follow me to lower or higher stages of my level. Don't know how to get this to follow me everywhere. | 2011-02-17 01:56:00 Author: rambo3416 Posts: 179 |
Size the piece of holo to the angle and zoom on your camera. Then make sure you put the follower on a microchip first, before you attach it to the holo. A microchip will act as an auto-center for your followers, tags, etc. Then make sure your follower is set to max speed and max accelleration, and set the in/out movement to "no" and make sure the holo piece is all the way on the front thin layer.. That will solve your disappearing health bar problem. Then you should attach your camera to the sackbot's microchip. That should help. | 2011-02-17 03:17:00 Author: bloomchild Posts: 74 |
Thanks for the advice. With the game camera, as I move up and down throughout the level, the health bar bounces. Mainly when I jump. Do you know if there's a way for the health bar to stay still while a game camera (and not a movie camera) is attached? I have the up/down movement off on the follower. | 2011-02-17 03:56:00 Author: rambo3416 Posts: 179 |

On the follower chip, did you set 'allow up/down movement' to 'true'? | 2011-02-17 03:58:00 Author: munrock2 Posts: 96 |
On the follower chip, did you set 'allow up/down movement' to 'true'? Yea, I guess the issue is the movie camera is it's set to a specific position. So the up/down movement on the movie camera doesn't seem to matter at all for the viewing angle. | 2011-02-17 04:12:00 Author: rambo3416 Posts: 179 |
My level uses a movie camera for the same purpose and I've never run into that problem. Can you get one to move properly in a fresh level? The Local Space setting might be interfering but as far as I can tell it does nothing different on a movie camera. Always be sure to put the camera (regardless of type) on the same chip as the hologram's follower and never directly on the subject you're controlling, otherwise there's going to be delays and bounciness for sure. Also keep in mind that sackbot positions are updated in a bouncy way, so even with a perfect follower camera (which I've just done myself with both game and movie cameras) the screen will still bob down a bit and back up when the bot lands from a jump. There is also of course a very slight delay between the bot moving and the follower following, and there could possibly even be a delay between a camera moving and the screen updating with it. These seem very negligible, however. | 2011-02-17 06:19:00 Author: Unknown User |
Either your follower is moving up/down when you jump or your camera has its player tracking turned up, or both. If the camera is attacked to the follower with the health bar (which it should be if you want to keep it in the corner of the screen), you'll want to turn player tracking all the way down on the camera so that it stays in a fixed position relative the the health bar. | 2011-02-17 06:52:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
