Hazards, Bolts, & Pistons

Archive: 9 posts

It would be nice to be able to set material so that you die when you touch it similar to the way you die when you touch spikes. If I want to make a sword or something similar, I shouldn't have to resort to electrifying it to make it a hazard. Plus, the sound that made when electrocuted gets irritating.

Also, I made a character using a couple bolts and pistons last night, and I noticed that there wasn't any way to make the bolts invisible. It's very distracting for the bolt to be one color and the character to be another.

The other thing that I noticed was that there was no way to make the bolts or pistons silent. Having all of the mechanisms moving at once can get really noisy.

Unless it's something that I missed, it would be nice to have options to fix these problems.

The gas is annoying too. I might want the effect of gas, but I don't necessarily need the sound of flies buzzing around when it doesn't fit with the rest of my level.

Sometimes you can put a piece of thin material over the bolt to hide it, but that's the only way around this.

To hide bolts I found it quite handy to put decorations over it.
So I had a character with a few bolts on I made one of them a button and the others I tried to 'tie in' to the outfit. Doesn't always work that well but it can help. Also if you putting them at the smallest size helps a little.

I say go with decorations... If i Use other material, it tends to end up sticking or throwing off the physics somewhere. Decorations tend not to throw off teh physics too much.

I agree with the irritating gas noise, and there should be an option to make something a hazard, just a hazard, nothing like fire or electricity...2008-11-28 21:05:00

Can't you use the knife, instead of your 'sword' design.2008-11-28 22:31:00

I agree with the sounds and such. It sometimes distracts from the mood and tone of the level.2008-11-29 04:28:00

Wouldn't the sound of the background music you are putting into a level cover over most unwanted minor background sounds?

I'd have to check that this is the case, but I suspect that's why I haven't ever heard the gas sound while actually in play mode for a properly designed level.

But what if I wanted a different shape sword than that of the knife. I'd rather not have to compromise if I didn't have to.
