Music Sequencer Start Point

Archive: 3 posts

I've been playing around with the music sequencer for the past couple days and I've come up with a few songs for my project. The problem is that I can't seem to get the music sequencer to start exactly in the beginning. It almost always skips the first few beats. So to compensate I moved everything over a notch. This works fine for non-looped music, but two of my songs are supposed to be looped. Once the song gets going and it loops to the beginning it's fine, but it's at the very start of the song where it sort of 'jumps in'.

I've tried hooking it up to a button. When sackboy jumps on it, again, the first couple notes are missing. It's almost like it fades in? I've tried manually starting it in the beginning. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. I've also noticed that it mostly skips the first few notes when you open up the sequencer tweaking menu.

Any ideas?

This was discussed on the beta forums. Tom piped up with the answer "The reason the sequencer does this is because the audio files have to load when the sequencer is activated" or something along those lines. I don't think it should happen when it is linked to a switch, though.2011-02-16 21:32:00

Well, I've done some more testing and the problem occurs when it's hooked up through a grab switch, player sensor, button, grab switch + selector, grab switch + OR and AND gates ............. basically, it only works correctly when the sequencer is activated by the internal player sensor (the one that's built in). At least it works like that - however that will cause a lot of frustration when someone needs to activate music via switches.

Good to know that Mm knows about it - thanks!

EDIT: I wonder if putting the music sequencer on a regular sequencer would work? I need the music to be activated at a certain point anyway and the player won't always be around to activate it.

2nd EDIT: Well, it also doesn't work on a sequencer. I activated the sequencer with a player sensor. I placed the music sequencer in the beginning of the sequence. I also placed a movie camera at the beginning of the sequence for reference during play mode. I entered play mode and sure enough, the camera worked but the music sequencer missed the first few notes.

I then put the music sequencer a couple notches over to the right and gave it a full 2 seconds before it needed to be activated. Same thing - once activated, it still missed a few notes.

This has to be a glitch. Even though Mm knows about it (apparently), I'm still going to send a report.

3rd Edit: It's confirmed .. Mm is looking into it. Click here for details. (http://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet/topics/music_sequencers_and_logic_gates_skipping_notes-hgbej)
