Chaz'oSulls Reviewing Service (Obvious Kit rip-off!)

Archive: 11 posts

KIT'S REVIEWS (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=4835) - THIS IS WHERE I STOLE FROM! :O

I really enjoyed reading the reviews written by Kit07 and I know as a creator I enjoyed getting critical feedback from another member. So I thought I'd completely rip-off his idea and do it myself as I often find I'm critically commenting on a lot of levels anyway.

Anyways, I'll always have three slots for reviews to come so if you'd like me to check out your level and give you some feedback on it then I'll happily do so if there is a space free. Just give me your PSN name and the level name. Naturally, if I like the level particularly I will heart it too.

Reviews to come:

1:
2:
3:

All reviews should come within a day or so. Just be patient, and I'll post the results up here.

WARNING: I'm going to be 100% honest here. No sugar coating from me. Take that as a positive or a negative, it's up to you. If your levels blows, I'm going to tell you it blows and I don't care if you think "I can't do any better" 'cause I didn't make this thread to review myself.

Oculynth by Avatar of Chaos - HEARTED <3
Oculynth by Avatar of Chaos
In the same style as his previous level, Pete's Great Glass Tower, Avatar of Chaos has created another straight up, simple yet adequetly challenging platforming romp.

The most noteworthy thing about this level is it's length. This level is long. I mean, REALLY long. It took me around 15 to 20 minutes at least to finish the whole thing alone and I didn't even locate all of the prize bubbles. The thing is, due to the great amount of variety in the many, many sections of platforming challenges, I was entertained throughout. There never was a moment where I felt like just giving up and quitting. I wanted to see it through to the end.

Visually, this level is not exactly a sight to behold. It features just the most basic of materials and shapes with nary a decoration in sight. It cuts out decoration, plot, dialouge, characters and enemies in favour of a ton of very well crafted platforming sections involving some relatively basic mechanics. The result of this is a very addictive, challenging and surprisingly worthwhile level.

Something quite refreshing, is that I didn't come across a single design fault across the entire level. Everything worked how it was supposed to. Because I played in single player, it's hard to say whether or not the solid action would hold up as well with more players but I'd imagine that it would still hold up nicely.

My favourite parts were definetly the numerous instances of riding on moving platforms. I found them pretty tricky and it was a real sense of acheivment to overcome them. All of the platforming sections are nicely done and I can't think of any that I particularly disliked.

In conclusion, whilst the level is almost entirely "by the books" and doesn't stretch much imagination, what is there is crafted exceedingly well making it an easy recommendation for anyone looking for some challenging platforming. It only falls short of being great due to the complete lack of asthetics and overall charm.

7.5/10 - GOOD

Well you've already played my "Oculynth" level so I'd be interested to have a more in depth look at what you thought of it!
Be as harsh as you like, I'd like it to be completely honest.

Instead of having several different reviewers, we should form a team of video reviewers. Sound like a good idea? I'd be happy to film if you think it sounds good.2008-11-19 04:44:00

Seems fair enough to me. I'm definitely taking notice of your comments about aesthetics and implementing a much more distinctive visual style for my future levels. I already have one in mind at the moment that I'm hoping will blow everyone away!

You could review my completed level "Temple of Sun and Moon" or my incomplete level "H.A.T.E.".

Thanks in advance, man.

This is very easy for me as I've actually played both of your levels already. ^_^

I hearted Temple of Sun and Moon a week ago in fact. It'll have to be tomorrow but I'll write 'em up and put them then.
