"PLUNDER" A pirates life

Archive: 8 posts

Hey y'all

Im making some steady progress with this level concept of mine, and after many weeks tweaking...(and some more tweaking) i've been able to publish a demo version of some of the ideas and mechanics involved in the level.

I would describe it as an action/adventure RPG, with top down shooter elements.... set on the stormy seas of the burlap straights.

At present ive only included the main "free-roam arena" from my level, which consists of several loot-iness pirates galleons, and three interactive islands which you can visit. Be it to meet mysterious strangers in the taverns or repair your ship and upgrade at the ship-wright.

Could really do with some feedback on my work so far..... if its not worth it im not gona waste time implementing more islands and quests.

So thanks in advance for those of you that may give it a whirl, i hope you enjoy, and dont forget to leave feedback, positive or negative (I have thick skin! lol)

Cheers

I'll check this out, this level is actually extraordinarily similar to mine, you could check it out if you want! I just queued yours and I'll play it shortly.

My levels actually has top down ship sailing, with only a couple islands with the free roam ability. I'll check it out soon!

EDIT: I just played it, I liked the idea, but there were still a few bugs here and there, I understand that it was a demo so you can't expect perfection, but some kind of messed up the whole deal.

One thing, I didn't notice any difference in the islands, wherever I docked I would end up the same place, and you could only go visit the mayor.

Also it took me a minute or two to figure out the ships controls, but after I did it was ok.

The biggest bug I found was when you were out in your ship and you press R1, if you aren't near an island the whole map goes black and you have no way of navigating.

It was a cool idea! Especially because I made a level like this too, so there may be a little of bias in my opinions If you buff out all the minor issues then it has some real great potential!

Cheers Jayhawk_er!

Queued your level, will play later.

I have got other "islands" but didnt want to include just yet as i needed to test the transition between scenes first, but i will be sure to include them soon enough, this weekend hopefully.

As for the controls, i had set a sequencer with basic tutorial commands on it, but i disabled in create mode, and it would appear i have had a "doh" moment and forgot to re-activate it! will correct that later.

The R1 bug is new to me, but thats the point in feedback.... was you by any chance within range of an AI ship?

Thanks again for the feedback, appreciate it.

Hey Fuser, I tried this out a little while ago, you seem to have got the basic mechanics in place. Don't give up on it just yet, it looks like it could turn into something quite fun to play.

It may help people to find your level and queue it if you link it in your original post (if it is there already I couldn't find it ).

Its here for anyone else who happens to want to queue it to take a look.
