Remote controlinator / Camera / Spawning

Archive: 2 posts

I require some help and advice. I'll try to explain what I am creating (what I wish to create) as best I can.

It's a final boss fight. It begins when the player (or players) enters a remote controlinator. The camera switches and is now looking from a bird's eye view upon the giant boss and the remotely controlled rocket (it's a fixed camera / Fixed to an area, not the remote rocket). The fight ensues, with the player manoeuvring their rocket to avoid attacks and fire upon certain parts of the boss. That is the basic concept.

Here is what I need help with:

1. Is the movie camera the best (or only) way of switching views from the player at the controlinator, to the scene with the boss / remote controlled rockets? Is it recommended over the game camera?

2. When the player's remote controlled rocket is destroyed by the boss, I want the rocket to respawn within the boss screen. Is this possible with the remote controlinator setup? And if so, how?

Thanks!

I think it's mostly dependent on how you want your level to behave in online or offline multiplayer, but I found movie cameras to be more flexible when working with a remote controlled DCS, simply because when there's a relatively big distance between your Sackboy and the receiving DCS, the game camera starts acting weird trying to keep Sackboy in its camera zone. With movie cameras, this is not an issue, however if your playfield is large and thus the movie camera can't be fixed to a position, all players will have to move with whatever moving (or controlled) object the movie camera is attached to. In the end it's best to try out both and choose the one that best fits the boss fight scene. But as a rule of thumb, for fixed camera fights and remote controlled controlinators I'd suggest movie camera, for other cases I'd go with game.

You could hook up the controlinator's "active" output to a NOT gate and that in turn to an emitter set to "emit once" that emits another instance of the controlled object (make sure to use a destroyer as well to get rid of the previous controlled object). Since you want this to work on emitted controllable objects as well, you'll have to resort to a wireless solution, such as using tag sensors and identically named/coloured tag switches to activate the emitter. If you set the trigger radius of the controlinator to a large enough value and enable the "automatically enter" setting, your Sackboy should be placed inside the DCS on the newly emitted controlled object as soon as he respawns in the level.

With a remote controlled DCS it should be even simpler: just emit a new receiver object and the transmitter DCS should communicate with it like it did with the previous one.

Hope this helps.
