my ps3 drive died, need help recovering profile, story progress, levels, goodies!!!!!

Archive: 9 posts

hi guys, last night my ps3 crashed right in the middle of playing lbp2. after the ps3 restarted and since it will not read any game, dvd or blu-ray discs what so-ever.

so i dont have a profile backup of my lbp 2. the game has all the data on the ps3 harddrive obviously but u cannot transfer the data to a flash drive without doing it in the game it seems. i can see the game data under the games > "game data utility". there is a profile, and game data there.

so anyway i bought a new ps3 today, and using the "data transfer utility" under settings > system settings i transfered my whole ps3 data to my new one so its exactly the same as the old. only problem is wen i load the game into it starts from the very begging, like it was on day one of release. i can import my lbp1 profile if i want. but all my progress in story, all the unlocks i earned, and most importantly the many hours i spent on the levels i was building isnt in the game. even though the data is there on the ps3 harddrive.

what can i do! real desperate here to get back to where i was, i cud cope with redoing the story, but its my levels on my moon i want and the goodies i used to make them.

i guess its something to do with the way lbp profile backing up is managed, i know they changed it about a year ago in a patch also, but come on my data is here, just need to detect it!!

i have already tried pressing start in my pod, im importing profile through the settings options, but only comes up with the lbp1 profiles i guess its because i dint backup my lbp2 profile!

please help, real time of deperation here!

TBH I don't think there is anything you can do, unless you fix the disk drive in the broken system but that would be costly.2011-02-14 21:59:00

You can switch out the hard drive in the PS3, so, why not take the one from the broken one, and put it in the new one. I think it voids your warranty though. For clarification, google it.2011-02-14 22:22:00

Switching hard drives doesn't void warranty however for a HDD to work in a new playstation it needs to be formatted.2011-02-14 22:25:00

DO NOT do this if you want to keep your data, it deletes everything first if you do.

Even if there is a way to recover game save data from a drive used in a PS3, which I doubt, I can guarantee it will not be cheap.2011-02-14 22:49:00
