Making Sackboy invisible?

Archive: 3 posts

Hi all,

I have a controllinator on a box and that box is effectively the 'player'. I also have it set up so if the player presses Triangle, the box will destroy and emit a new one at the level start, teleporting Sackboy into it. So it's effectively a 'restart level' button. However, in those moments you can of course see Sackboy hop out of the box and back into it again - is there a way to do this whilst keeping Sackboy hidden still? Perhaps using sackbots? worst case scenario I put up with it or else cover the game area with a 'curtain' whilst the reset is done.

Put the controlinator on a piece of invisible holographic material. Put a follower on the holographic material, set it to follow the box, set its speed and acceleration to maximum, and set its radius to span the entire level. Put another controlinator on the box, set both to remote controlinators. Set the one on the holo to 'send', and the one on the box to 'receive', and make sure both have matching colors.2011-02-14 20:30:00

Super, that worked a treat, thank you.

More info for those interested: To keep communication between the controllinator and the box I had to make a bunch of keys with names like 'box_LEFT' 'box_RIGHT' 'box_DESTROY' and activate them when pressing buttons on the pad. If you need to use the analogue value of the stick, you can just set the Key Sensor on the receiving object to 'Signal strength' - when you pass a signal to a key, the key will store the signal value (from -100 to 100).

Dude this is awesome, it's completely solved my next problem of how to have an element in the level control the box! Now I just need to put a key with the same name box_UP in the place I want it to move up. Woo!
