Directional Car Movement.

Archive: 5 posts

Hey all, I decided to put together a small tutorial on something a few people have inquired me about. Most of the experienced LBP'ers know how to do this, but I thought I'd make a tutorial anyway. This is how to get a (top-down) car to move in the direction it's facing.

For my car, I'll be using this slick red piece of cardboard. It's imported.

Place your Controllinator as usual.

Place your Joystick Rotator and Anti-Gravity as normal. Connect whatever you are using to rotate the car to the Joystick Rotator

Place a tag a small space above your Controllinator. Name the tag "car front".

Place a follower on the Controllinator. Set it to whatever speed you would like your car to move at, and set it to follow the tag "car front". Make the radius as small as it can be while still in range of the tag. Wire whatever button you are using to accelerate to the Follower. In this case I used the X button.

Very basic logic, if anybody has any questions just ask.

do you know anything about regular side-view left-right vehicle making? i have a bike, i want to push R2 to go forward, L2 to go back and idle with no input. is it possible? i can make it go forward and stop, thats it.2011-02-24 03:48:00

Should be pretty simple, just attach the R2 output to a mover with a positive speed, and the L2 output to a mover with a negative speed. 2011-02-24 06:12:00

There's an even simpler way to do that, just use a direction combiner. Wire the button you want for "forward" to the positive port & wire the button for "reverse" to the negative port. Then, you just wire the combiner to your mode of movement (mover or motor). If neither button is pressed, 0% power will be given to the mode of movement, therefore staying idle. If you want to simulate speed with pressure, you will have to wire inputs that are pressure-sensitive (R2/L2 or analog sticks) & set your mover/motor's input settings from "on/off" to "strength".2011-02-24 23:24:00

Isn't it even simpler to have a regular mover on your controlinator chip, with a max up speed of [whatever you like], the X-button hooked to it's on/off input and the local space setting on true. this would result in the same behaviour without having to sense once own nose. or am I missing something?
