PS3 Ain't reading disks..

Archive: 33 posts

So, turned on my PS3 just a few minutes ago.

Went to load up LBP, but there's no disk option. Pressed the eject button, and LBP slid out. Blue light came back on when I inserted it, still no Disk Option. Just that infernal circle of infinity in the right top corner.

Changed disks.

Same result.

******.

Basically - Is my BR Drive busted? & How the heck do I get a replacement PS3 from Sony if it is?

Oh man - that really sucks. Sorry to hear!
Seems like someone else here has a similar problem https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=4894

Hope this doesn't turn into a mass problem, like the PS2.
Anywho, give sony a ring and explain it. Maybe they can help.

Crap, sorry to hear that, I'd be so mad if that happened to me. I'd definitely call Sony. You wouldn't think so but they are actually really helpful, I've called them before. If you've had it for less than 12 months you won't have to pay anything will you?

And if you give me 2 minutes, I'll find a geographical number so you don't have to call to 090/0870 numbers cause they cost more.

Edit: Viola! "Sony UK Head Office switchboard": 01932 816000 and ask for Customer Support. Saves you a lot on your phone bill.

Well Sony officially suck.

So does my bloody mother, and everything's gone legs (for lack of swearing -.-) up.

Looks like I'll get a new bloody PS3 sometime around xmas.

Oh, sorry. Did I say new? I meant repaired.

I'm not even kidding. If something goes slightly wrong with it when it's returned, Sony are gonna have one hell of a lotta trouble. I ain't bluffing -.-

Creative had this problem about a year ago. A new ps3 came within a week, free of charge- as all ps3's get a 3 year warranty- I think.
I remember when I was at his house and the guy knocked at the door. Now I am against fingerprints and will kill anyone who touches my ps3, but as his old ps3 no longer meant anything to us, we were playing around with it. Then it was christmas again- unwrapping.

so what did you do.

play catch.... go on a field and throw it as far as you could? smacked it with a hammer XD

yeah that sucks to have a broken PS3. but after 2weeks you will learn to live without it.

i have had red ring 3 times on xbox 360 and after a week i forget i have it.
but then once it comes back. you get an amazing feeling of relief

Excuse me, but it's not sony's fault for one malfunctioning device.
All you really need to do is call them and tell them the situation, send them the PS3 and you'll get a new one, free.

Hey the exact same thing happened to me yesterday. I took a break from creating a level in LBP, went back about 15 minutes later and all of a sudden it no longer read any discs. Very strange, no signs of malfunctions at all prior to this.

Anyways, at least Sony are pretty good about replacing the machine, but I lost a ton of work I had done on some levels and I wasn't able to back anything up because my LBP profile was apparently corrupt.

I feel your pain sir.

Well I had a 60gb and the blu-ray crapped out on me.

Phoned sony and they are sending out a 'new' one, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Better to have loved and lost and know you will love again then never love at all

But yeah I feel your pain got to wait till the 24th for mine

Same here xD. It must just be a couple faulty devices, it's not uncommon.

The one with the lens problems is the CECHG03.

And don't even tell me "it's not Sony's fault, they'll give you a new one", when they even said "We'll just replace the part for you.

How would that work? My friend and I both had the disc error (and I had the yellow light too ?_?) and sony replaced my friend's one and I took mine back to the shop where I bought it and got another one. Hope this helps in some sort of way.2008-11-19 16:07:00

Did you buy it within a year? They will try to tell you that it's nothing to do with them but if you bought it within a year IT IS THE LAW for them to replace it. They tried to do that with me but we got proof from some consumer's rights website.2008-11-19 16:12:00

No problem

Chances are I'll be getting a 80GB, seeing as they don't have any 40GB's listed

I'll get the mother to take it back for me

GAME are pretty good actually. My PSP stopped reading UMDs, so i took it to them, showed them, and within 5 minutes they grabbed a new one from a box and just handed it over to me. I was amazed at how easy it was!!!2008-11-19 17:50:00

I think I'll take it all though if I'm honest..

With my PSP they weren't interested in anything else. The slip case, memory card, box, charger etc. Uninterested. But of course it may be different with the PS3.2008-11-19 22:21:00

Happened with me (Twice) and just now... 3 Options

Send it in to Sony ($150)
Get a new one
Try to fix it yourself (Note1)

Note1: If you try to fix it yourself, sony does NOT sell any inside or outside parts of the PS3
