Jersey S'mores

Archive: 17 posts

A race through graham crackers, chocolate bars, and melted marsh-mellows.

I wanted to make a level that included the new powerups and so this is what I came up with. I tried to keep the platforming as simple as possible just to get aquainted with the new tools. It's pretty basic gameplay wise. But really the motivation to make this level was an excuse to use that chocolate fountain material, lol.

Every time I play one of your levels it is followed by a massive eating session!

Good to see the food level master back. These screenshots look great and the name is epic on a stick. Can't wait to play!

Thanks for feedback on my level

I think this was an enjoyable level, the theme worked really well with the customized score bubbles and entrances. My favourite section was firing the marshmallows onto the spinning chocolate wheel, haven't seen that implemented as smoothly in any other level before, so really enjoyable. Making the level a race was a clever touch as well. Only one little section annoyed me, when I couldn't get the grapple hook to attach to the next circle but couldn't get much more swing because was already attached to a sliding bit of scenery (sorry for bad description!). But that was only a minor issue, otherwise great job and I'd love to see a longer level from you!

Ok, I played this several times last night. As you probably know, I've played many of your "sweet" levels over the last couple years. Your visuals never fail to amaze me. I'd love to ask the question: "Why cake and candy"? Of course, I may get the obvious reply "because I'm really good at drawing cake and candy".

So, I played through this twice - once to get an idea of the landscape, and another to try and get a decent score. One of the things that struck me here is how much you've ramped up the gameplay. Great use of the new LBP2 mechanics - this level is not only as pretty as your earlier ones, but I found the gameplay to be far more enjoyable. I think my favorite parts were using the power glove to slide across the rails, or using the grappling hook to swing around the fire.

I also appreciated that ealier in the level, you have the wheels with marshmallows stuck to them, and later you have marshmallows, a power glove, and a spinning wheel - Hmmmm.... great mechanics!

There were a few areas that I managed to get stuck in the background or fall into someplace I shouldn't have been. I'll see if I can identify any - I had to pop a couple times. For some reason, I've always been good at getting myself stuck in just about any level so it probably wouldn't happen to too many people.

Great job!

I guess maybe your asking why do I certain foods in particular or just food levels in general? I guess its what i feel can provide the most interesting visuals and gameplay set pieces. For instance, the fire for marshmellows just provided a good hazard throughout the level. Usually I get the ideas for certain foods by just messing around create like I did for this. I guess I could do fruits or veggies, I just haven't visualized the set pieces for them. There's also the "crave" factor.

Thanks as always for the thorough feedback. The gameplay really for me has always been an afterthought but I'm glad you enjoyed it. I struggle with coming up with creative obstacles so that's why I kept it as simple as I could. Obviously I borrowed from the story levels. I'm glad it worked out as I pretty much made this as I went along.

Btw, congrats on your level dude.

- Spelling error. Should be "marshmallows"!
Yeah, its ok.
There quite a bit of poor layer switching (falling into the back layer), unclear direction/goals (some scenery looked grabbable), etc. Cameras could be better also.
It would take me too long to point every little thing out.
The vertical grapple section really slowed down the pace for me. I would make the gaps a little bigger myself.
I thought your food level would destroy all the chocolate ones around atm (as I loved your cheese level), but not so much.
I think you can do much better gameplay wise.
Still worth playing for the pretty.

Edit:
If I have the time and am in the mood, I'll replay it and destroy your level in every way possible.

I'll admit this isn't my best effort. I threw it together as i went along, it wasn't planned out too well. If there is a particular section (yes you mentioned there are many) you can remember that gave you trouble I'll be more than happy to try and fix it. That's the way I usually polish up my levels--on the feedback of good people like yourself. Anyway, I really hope people don't expect great things from me cause my heart isn't into creating. I do enjoy sharing with the community though and playing other peoples levels.

Thank you for the feedback.

Edit: I guess I can be more generous on that vertical section. Thanks.

I had a go at this level earlier on today. I was very impressed

I really didn't have any issues, apart from this one part, where there is a cookie decoration in a fiery pit. I thought it was some kind of safe area, so I jumped onto the cookie, and my sackboy burnt to to a crisp.

I still smiled and hearted it, though.

Could you play "Here today gone tomorrow" a movie, in my signature. Or when movie's go wrong, but I would prefer you to play the latest.

Here is my review:
There couldn't be any more of a delectable level, playing this made my mouth water.. I think you should have been employed to create Victoria von Bathynsphere (Spelling) levels in story mode.
Visuals: Were outstanding, I don't think there was a square inch I looked and didn't see eye candy (Literally)
Gameplay: I played with a friend, and it was great fun. Perfectly compatiable for 2 players, but apart from that, the whole level being a race really gave exciting gameplay. Also I loved your use of all the tools available to sackboy.
Overall: One of the best races I have played yet... You really took into consideration, visuals, multiplayer and not to mention exciting gameplay.. I yayed and hearted.

Fun level, played with 4 people. It was just a great theme and you pulled it off flawlessly theme-wise.

One thing, we were able to get right past the race. Not exactly sure how it happened but we jumped right over it.

But loved the level, will definitely play it again.

Thanks. I got your level in my queueue. Will try it out shortly and leave some F.

Update: I made the vertical section ever so slightly easier. If anyone thinks its still too much trouble, I'll fix it again. I don't care about the difficulty. Also I added some hints to make it less confusing...hopefully? Ah, well I have another level coming in days, so if there's nothing major for me to fix, I'm done with this level.
