Water, WHERE WE WANT IT!!!!

Hi!

I think that you should be able to select the area where you want water. (Using the system like capturing an object) so that water can be in a particular place. I have several levels where the water is making other things float which are underground, very annoying!

I agree - water where we want it would be great. It's just too restrictive having to fill the whole level up with water to a certain hight, just because you want it in one area. I'm making a level where I want a pond in one bit, but the water all the way across the level really ruins the look of the rest of it.2011-02-13 05:39:00

I've always wanted this and expected this when they first released water. But In my new level I've only worked for a few hours on, has water but the rest of the level will be above the water level. So no problem.2011-02-13 18:57:00

I loled when I read the thread's name. Sorry.
Anyways... I think simulating the water effects and stuff is a bit too difficult for the PS3 to handle, that's why this can't be implemented or sth.
Would be cool though

Water as simple as it is, already takes 2 bars off the thermo, I'm positive making it more complex and making stull like that would just eat away the remaining thermo.

Water's not so easy to make, m8, remember, if they could add that, they would've, but since they haven't they probably can't, or its too glitchy.

I think a simple material that looked like water and caused sackboy to swim when he was inside of it would work. Thermo wise, it wouldn't even have to trigger objects to behave differently, because with the gravity switches you could simulate water physics anyway.2011-02-13 19:25:00

I know it would be really difficult and resource-intensive to implement, but having water that, say, fills up a bucket or an aquarium or something, would be pretty cool. Of course you can do it with materials, but having real water could be pretty sweet.2011-02-14 16:03:00

This is what I would want much more than "actual" water that had like fluid physics or whatever. That sounds like a nightmare to implement.

What would be great though is a "water" material that basically designates a zone where underwater physics are in play. So you could just have a square of water floating around in the air, that you could jump into the bottom of and then swim up to the top. That seems like it'd be super useful and possibly have some really cool applications, and while I'm certainly no programmer it doesn't seem like something that would be especially difficult to do?

Another, very easy change to water I'd like to see is the ability to tweak how many seconds go by before your sackboy drowns.

That could come in useful but I really do think it would be too hard to be implemented into the game, I think if it were possible we would have had that by now but since we have water as a global setting I would presume it is too hard with the physics of the game. This thread has just shattered my dreams haha. I'm working on a new level, after spending some time planning and drawing a rough guide on paper, I thought it would be a good idea to have a pool of water in one section and a pool in another. This could be worked around by changing the water level to 0 where you don't want water. To get around things under water in a different part of the level from floating upwards, just make a water sensor connected to an antigravity tweaker set to 100% dampening on the object to make them stay put when water is in the level.2011-05-25 02:18:00
