The Sack Starfighter: Exodus of Gammatron VII

Archive: 5 posts

I've never made a survival challenge. I've never made a multi-player friendly level. I've never made a vs. challenge. I've never made a top down game.

I figured I'd hit 'em all with one giant learning experiment. This was more of a path for me to learn new things more than creating a shared level - but the outcome was decent so I figured I'd get some feedback.

One person has already commented via review that the ship is too slow - but it is supposed to be. If it is just too slow for fun, please comment and if more than one person says it I'll speed them up.

There is also a published cooperative version - lbp.me link is: here (http://lbp.me/v/xrgg5z)

Queued, will review within 30 minutes. Please F4F my Signature 2 part Level in exchange. Thanks in advance!

REVIEW TIME!

The beginning of what could shape up to be an excellent top down shooter!

GAMEPLAY: 4/5 The craft controls need a little more precision to deal with the sheer volume of fire you're getting sometimes. Excellent bad guy variety!
DIFFICULTY: 3.5/5 Just about right if the craft controls get honed a little
TECHNICAL APTITUDE: 4/5 Well above average wiring skill in the creation of this level.
AUDIO: 2/5 Subpar. The sound effects are completely drowned out by the score.
VIDEO: 4/5: Enemy model variety is very high, could use a little more detail in the models themselves though
REPLAY VALUE: Moderately High

OVERALL: 3.5/5 With a little tweaking this could be turned into a very excellent survival challenge game.

Suggestions: Title Screen. Louder and more diverse audio elements. Adjust the deceleration on the controlinator to 100% this will allow for more precision when darting around the projectiles being fired, the craft speed will be fine with that adjustment applied.

I tried adjusting the audio - not sure it did much. Even when I turned down the background music, I could still barely hear all the various sounds that are placed - but I did add a firing sound to the player ships which I had forgotten.

I fixed the deceleration and it does make things better - thanks for the advice, as I like the results.

Title screen was also added - though its brief and nothing over the top fancy.

Just played this level, and the shooter is pretty impressive.

VISUALS:
The ships looked pretty good, and the stardust background made this level feel like you're in for the speed.

SOUND:
Great echoing sound. I didn't expect the "Victoria's Lab" interactive music to be used as a shooter game music.

GAMEPLAY:
Feels just like the shooter game. Although the spacing is a bit too large, the usage of the controlinator fits well in this level. I agree with Pickle of Fire that you should put the deceleration rate to 100%.

OVERALL:
A good shooter game. Keep it up. A yeah vote.

Thanks for the feedback. I believe that when you played it the decel was already at 100%. If it still needs anything I would have to increase speed, but in the end its supposed to be a survival level - so more manuevarability just delays the inevitable.

I had a couple comments outside the forum requesting "lives" ... but considering the ship can be hit 10 times before explosion, I feel it already has ten lives built in. Ithink anymore lives would defeat both the feel of a last fight to survive and extend the game to the point where the gameplay might start to feel redundant and uninviting.
