Little Big Golf
Archive: 22 posts
Hello, Been lurking the forums for a while now and decided its time to register, got some excellent tips from the tutorials threads (thanks to everyone who helps out in there!) This is my first LBP2 level, its a single player mini golf game that I've spent the last couple of weeks creating (yes, I know there is currently a mini golf in the MM picks but hopefully mine is different enough to get some feedback ). Heres a couple of screenshots: http://if.lbp.me/img/fl/08fb8c1d33269dfb496ac838b4087543d4fe3bbb.jpg http://i5.lbp.me/img/fl/1954343cfba4a1d3320ee1f3593471cbab207541.jpg Any feedback good/bad/indifferent appreciated. Looks very good!! I've queued it for you... | 2011-02-12 20:32:00 Author: FourteenInchGaz Posts: 110 |
Hey Shinogi. With you, Gaz, and me hear I think we have quite the golf crew! I liked your course. It looked nice and I like your hole designs. I especially like what you did with hole 7 making a section of the upper level transparent. I can tell a lot of work was put into it, believe me! | 2011-02-13 04:51:00 Author: Unknown User |
Queued and review within 30 minutes. F4F my Signature 2 parter please! REVIEW TIME! PROS: Excellent hole layouts - a nice mix of traditional and unique holes. Muted course decor adds to the overall aesthetic quality with being an eyesore or a distraction. CONS: None to speak of. Gameplay: 5/5 Mini-Golf as advertised, the controls do exactly what they should. Presentation: 4/5 Classic top-down mini-golf feel. Audio: 4/5 Audio did a more than adequate job of conveying the effects needed. Video: 3/5 Solid, but could use some more visual flairs. Suggestions: Title Screen, Multiplayer Mode, Course Par Display, Options Menu with music select. OVERALL: 4/5 Near Instant Classic! Well done! | 2011-02-13 04:56:00 Author: Unknown User |
Looks very cool. I've queued it. Will leave feedback once I finish work. | 2011-02-13 12:00:00 Author: Entity Posts: 274 |
Hey all, thanks for the feedback! @Pickle_of_Fire: Thanks for the review, I was just building a simple music changer last night before going to bed, just had to wire it into the level this morning before I could republish . Still got a lot more to learn to add in some of the features you've suggested, I would like to make it multiplayer but I am currently using the deathless teleports to move between holes so I'll need to use a different mechanic for multiplayer (Will require a lot of reworking!). @Halestorm: Thanks, I spent the first week just trying to get the ball to move correctly based on different power levels. Excellent multiplayer mini-golf level btw, I prefer the way the ball drops into the hole on your level as well, for some reason it just looks more realistic. @Gaz: Just tried your level, its great fun. One small idea, not sure if its possible, add a randomizer that lights up one of the holes and gives double score if someone scores there. Could makes it switch every 30 seconds or once someone scores. | 2011-02-13 12:43:00 Author: Shinogi Posts: 31 |
Just tried this, it's very cool. Maybe you should make the aiming a little slower, though. You could possibly use a joystick rotator. Aside from that, everything else was great. I especially loved the course design. | 2011-02-14 02:31:00 Author: Entity Posts: 274 |
Thanks Entity, I have been playing with the rotation speed settings for a while but haven't quite managed to fine tune it enough yet. I am using advanced rotators but will give the joystick rotator a go once I get home from work and see if it gives better results (not sure why I didn't try it out already ). | 2011-02-14 09:17:00 Author: Shinogi Posts: 31 |
Hey, my son and I had fun with the level overall (we took turns). Here's the pros and suggestions: Pros: Good variety and hole designs. I like having design elements around the holes. I like the Passion Pit song. It's good enough that if it were multi-player, I'd play with my friends. Suggestions: Haven't played with this type of controls yet very much, so I can't say how, but can you tweak acceleration of the ball - it speeds up from the club then slows down (might feel better if it started at top speed). Any way to not receive ball that goes too quickly over hole - I tested and smashed the ball from an inch away. Not critical, but I felt there was a detail touch that would push this to next level. Each level was screaming for an interactive element when the ball goes in the hole, like a whale popping up from the waves. | 2011-02-16 01:50:00 Author: Hoplyte Posts: 100 |
Remembered one more suggestion. I like the Passion Pit song, but maybe change up the song after it finishes? | 2011-02-16 01:51:00 Author: Hoplyte Posts: 100 |
Thanks for the feedback. You can change the music at anytime with the R1 button I had thought about adding a hole completion sequence I just havent got an idea for every hole yet (some of them have an obvious finish sequence, hole 8 for example would give the impression of speeding off). I may borrow the whale idea for hole 5 For the ball's acceleration I had a fair bit of trouble getting the ball to up to its top speed, there is probably a better way than what I am using (currently uses a Mover with 100% acceleration), I just haven't found out how yet. | 2011-02-16 09:08:00 Author: Shinogi Posts: 31 |
That was fun! Are you planning on adding more holes? I'm not saying that it was short, just that by the end I wanted to play more. Overall very good and the music changer is a nice touch. | 2011-02-16 11:15:00 Author: lochnar Posts: 59 |
Thanks Lochnar, I hadn't considered adding more holes yet although I do still have some scribbles of layouts that may be fun to try out. | 2011-02-16 14:47:00 Author: Shinogi Posts: 31 |
I'll pitch in and play | 2011-02-16 14:56:00 Author: Angelgozen Posts: 286 |
Hey, thanks to everyone who has played this so far. Just a quick note to say I've updated it a little and republished a while ago, I have now added a short animated sequence each time a hole is completed. (Thanks Hoplyte, your post made me think about it enough to put the effort in and add the sequences to each hole). | 2011-02-18 22:36:00 Author: Shinogi Posts: 31 |
Very nice, i just wish it was 4 player so that i could invite some friends ^_^ | 2011-02-19 13:27:00 Author: Angelgozen Posts: 286 |
Thanks Angelgozen, unfortunately the logic I used doesn't lend it self to multiplayer. I may spend some time in the future converting it but I may need to start from scratch to get it to work . Anyway, this is my final update to the level for now which was to add a simple title screen. I also fixed an issue with the camera on the first hole if multiple people do enter the level (it should hopefully keep the camera on the hole and allow others to watch you play). | 2011-02-23 18:40:00 Author: Shinogi Posts: 31 |
Hey dude! Thanks for your feedback on my level! I didnt find any F4F levels from you, but I'll queue this level and I'll return soon with feedback! See ya! | 2011-02-23 22:19:00 Author: Potunator Posts: 58 |
Thanks Potunator, your samurai level definately deserves more plays. I wasn't sure if I would have time to provide feedback on people's levels very often so didn't make this an F4F thread. I still do provide feedback on levels I queue up from LBPC whenever possible though . | 2011-02-23 22:44:00 Author: Shinogi Posts: 31 |
I liked it man! Although hole 7 has a chance of the ball falling over the edge. Really nice level overall! I liked it how every hole was unique and something always happened when you cleared the hole! Really nice! | 2011-02-24 14:18:00 Author: Potunator Posts: 58 |
Will deffinetlly be giving this level a go once I can get my missus off the tv soaps lol | 2011-02-24 16:32:00 Author: Tommo29 Posts: 17 |
Thanks Guys. @Potunator, I'm guessing that is near the layer flip between the upper a lower parts of the hole, I'll take a look once I get home from work, may just need to extend those upper walls a little if it's where I think it is. Thanks again. | 2011-02-25 07:09:00 Author: Shinogi Posts: 31 |
